So question's you have, can only be answered by cox people in your market. To me, it just sounds like the Cox CA market has been one of the markets doing there upgrades slowly. As market's like AZ and such have had 6-8 downstream channel's, and 2-4 upstream channel's for a while now.]]></description>

Went to local Cox store and bought new Cisco DOCSIS 3.0 modem for my premier service.  When I asked rep about hefty $90 pricetag and asked if there were any promotions he lopped $10 off my bill for 6 months.  So essentially $30 out the door.  Easy install and my speed are up from about 30 Mbps to 60.  ]]></description>

I would upgrade to a Netgear WNR3500L V1 for around $30 which supports the Shibby Tomato firmware and Gigabit ports, but I am on the preferred 31/6 plan so the router is not the bottleneck.<br> <br>During off peak hours, my sb5101u peaked at 34 Megabits down and 8 up before Cox's speed upgrade.  After the upgrade the downstream was the same, but the peak up was 12.<br><br>I purchased a used DPC3010 on ebay for $34.  I noticed peak upsteams of 16 megabits (then dropping to 6) and the same 34 megabits down.   Since it is a DOCSIS 3.0 modem, the 8 channels down and 3 up maintain the high speeds during peak hours (vs dropping down to 6 megabits down). However, as has been mentioned with the speeds now being offered with Premier and Ultimate its day has passed.<br><br>If you don't want to upgrade your router at this time you could downgrade to Preferred and it should be able to handle it. You would also save a few bucks every month.]]></description>

It had a problem where it could not handle over a few thousand packets per second. This would cause problems with counter-strike when browsing for games as the game browser would send out a flurry of udp packets to hundreds of hosts.]]></description>

It doesn't surprise me that the wan/lan ports can't keep up after looking at the throughput review on smallnetbuilder.com<br>However I'm surprised that it would suddenly just start dropping connection to the internet randomly when not even pushing high speeds.<br><br>In any event after wasting many hours I caved and ordered an ASUS RT-N66U which should be able to keep up just fine based on reviews. I would have gotten the ASUS RT-AC66U but decided against it since it has no working version of tomato, costs $35 more, and I don't see myself owning any 802.11ac devices in the next couple years. Maybe if a Nexus phone is released with it but I don't see that kind of throughput making any difference on a phone in the near future.]]></description>

The 50 may be pushing the routers limits and if you use any QOS or other routing features may not get the full speed. <br>Just did a little googling seems to confirm the WAN throughput will not do 50. Time for a new router. What I have read I may have misinterpreted just googled your router and throughput. <br>I have the older version of the router and it is rock solid just at the lower speed package. Also do not fully use QOS etc. as no real need with my use. If i had to really do QOS even at 25 I might think of a new router also. The firmware can not make up for the hardware. With today's speed faster hardware is needed. I am talking WLAN not LAN. Also if you are heavily into say a media server, transfering large files between computers etc. even the LAN falls short of gig speeds available now. ]]></description>

If I plug straight into the modem with a computer I get 64mbps down (powerboost may be part of that) and it's stable. If I go through the router I'm lucky to get 10 down. Prior to the upgrade I would get the advertised 22 or greater all the time.<br><br>Is it possible my router was on its last legs and this pushed it over the edge, or could something else be going on?]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[anon posted : FWIW, using giganews as the usenet service, I averaged 80Mb/s for the ten minute stretch I tested it tonight.<br><br>Since this last bandwidth upgrade, Giganews had maxed my my available bandwidth at 50Mb/s now it's barely more than half of the 150 I'm supposed to get with Ultimate Cox.  I don't know if there's a cap on that service but I may have reached it if there is...but before, I would agree that Giganews/usenet was a good way to test...still might be if there's an issue with my downstream.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[anon posted : Upgraded my sister in Tucson 85748 to Premiere and had a new SB6141 provisioned on her account. Still no 50/10. Shaperprobe results are indicative of preferred speeds with estimated capacity at 31/6 and traffic shaped speeds of 25/5. Spoke to Tier 1 support at Cox and he stated everything from signal to account config files were correct. He did update the firmware to the Oct 2012 FW. Anyone else having post speed upgrade issues in Tucson as well?]]></description>
