Re: [Speed] Speed increase.

What's the point of the blast package now

Around here, Blast was upgraded to 50/10, but that was a year ago. It's a great deal for only $10/month more than Performance.

Same here. We were upgraded to Blast 50/10 last spring/summer.I suspect they may not update my area since the speeds are really good. Time will tell.

I spoke to Comcast tech support for here in Chicago area last night. The guy said that for the time being POWERBOOST, is here to stay. He did also mention that sometime, he stressed sometime in the future, as they had no time given to them at all, the Chicago area, would be upgraded similar to the Northeast area, with Blast going to 50, 50 to 105, and 105 seeing the lower price, just like the northeast. Also that the 300 would start to become available here in the Chicago market. Again no time limits given. But that for now, POWERBOOST is here to stay for those that are in the Chicago market.

No offense to the tech, but I wouldn't trust what one tech says. Every (and I mean EVERY) business class support tech I spoke to on the phone or who came to my prem told me straight to my face "Business class does not have powerboost". One guy said that right when I showed him a 75/35 speedtest.net, to which he replied it was a fluke. I repeated it 2 more times to different servers with slightly varying speeds, but still WELL over my 22/5 rate at the time. They just shrugged it off. So take what this phone tech tells you with a (heaping, 2 ton) grain of salt.

No change here, although per my earlier thread there have been significant area router upgrades going on around here.

Wierd, I can now stream Vudu HDX 3D. I could never understand why I couldn't before, since it only needs about 11mbps and I was on the 16/2 plan. But it would always go into buffering and drop down to HD 3D. Now it streams HDX 3D fine, pulling 11mbps without buffering. I wonder if powerboost was confusing the player somehow? Since it's not going close to the 16mbps down I had before losing powerboost would seem to be a bigger change than going from 16 to 22mbps.

Well, those speed tests were helpful...?

Increases, decreases, the same?

First 2 look like blast speed anyway, this round of increases seems to be only for people on the performance 16/2 tier.

Well, in my case, I have seen an increase in upload speed. Here is another speed test that I just did (link and attached pic are the same).

Last year I did a test from that site, and did keep a log. That information is below

06/13/2012 @ 9:46 AM
Download: 24.15 Mbps
Upload: 4.22 Mbps

07/12/2012 @ 10:26 AM
Download: 25.37 Mbps
Upload: 4.18 Mbps

08/29/2012 @7:30 AM
Download: 25.42 Mbps
Upload: 4.21 Mbps

10/09/2012 @ 7:06 AM
Download: 25.29 Mbps
Upload: 4.26 Mbps

11/06/2012 @ 11:13 AM
Download: 25.47 Mbps
Upload: 4.19 Mbps

11/27/2012 @ 3:39 PM
Download: 25.48 Mbps
Upload: 4.449 Mbps

12/09/2012 @ 8:17 AM
Download: 25.43 Mb2ps
Upload: 4.07 Mbps

12/27/2012 @ 8:49 AM
Download: 25.33 Mbps
Upload: 4.05 Mbps

While I know speed tests sites like that don't show the complete picture, in the past week or so I've seen my upload climb now to anything between 15 MB/s and 45 MB/s (again, using the same site).

While I have not keep track as I did before (I think I will start now with the above test), something is going on for me. Again, no idea what, but something is changing. As I said, my upload (at least as reported from speedtest.net) was always right around 4 Mbps for the longest time.

I am on the performance package, as my bill says "Performance Internet Svc Includes Powerboost".

It does seem like they are having problems setting the upload, if yours is going nuts that might be an indication they are making the change. My upload speed still jumps around depending on the test I run, if I FTP something large it settles down to 4Mbps.

FYI: the Java test here at DSLReports is giving me the same rates I get doing FTP. Other flash based tests seem to be very inconsistent now.

I think I found the reason for my really high uploads that I was posted a posts back.

I'm running PFSense, and was using this version: 2.1-Beta (i386) built on Sun Jan 6 05:42:27 EST 2013.

Back on 02/01/2013, I "lost" my IPv6 IP. No matter what I would do (reboot desktop, reboot cable modem, reboot pfsense), I would not get it back. I did verify that if I removed PFSense, I did get a proper IPv6 IP.

It was at the same time that I noticed my upload speeds going really high (similar to what I had posted in this thread).

Well last night, I took the time to install and configure a newer beta build. I'm now running this version: 2.1 Beta built on built on Tue Feb 12 08:58:22 EST 2013.

Once everything was all configured, IPv6 worked for me again.

Not to mention, my results from Speedtest.net are back where they are suppose to be (see above picture).

I'm no expect on PFSense by any means, but if something got totally hosed in it, would it skew the upload test that bad?

@comcast.net

FYI everyone, something I have learned about PB is that Comcast has this thing apparently setup for specific protocols only or it working different for different ones.

IF I run shaper probe my upload says 5.4Mb with no shaping.

IF I upload an file, it starts at 5.4Mb and within 10-15 seconds drops down to 4Mb...

So don't trust these tests.

I am on 25/4 Blast btw... I always thought it was working as the 5.4Mb upload until I actually monitored an upload. Every single test I can find and run says no shaping otherwise lol
