The time has come for me to reformat my computer for the first time since I bought it; 4+ years.

I have a problem though. My computer is a Dell Dimension 8250 and I didn't receive the recovery CD in the box. From what I've heard, there's a image on a separate partition on the drive.

My question is, do I have to make a backup of the OS image (~3.5 GBs) before formatting ?

Also is there a tutorial on how to reformat using a disk image ?
