Can I use a splitter

I have internet only through Metrocast and use DirecTV for TV. We only watch SD through DirecTV as we've never upgraded to HD, and only have one 32" HD LCD - the rest are old Sony 27" CRT's.
Can I get a coax splitter and send one line to the cable modem and hook the other into the RF input on the LCD TV to get any over the air channels that are passed through using QAM?

Will the splitter affect my internet?
Thanks

Short answer, yes.

Long answer, depends on your modem levels. Goto 192.168.100.1 and post the output of your receive and transmit power levels.
