 | [CA] Cox "free" local channels in clear QAM We cancelled our TV service months ago (but kept our Cox HSI), and when a tech came out and added the filter, we discussed local channels and he said we definitely won't get anymore channels, even the local ones. I thought we had to get those, but whatever. Anyway, putting the cable straight into my Tv, I can still get local stations. But it seems like every few seconds there is massive blocking all over the screen and the audio glitches. But Otherwise you can kinda watch TV.
Is Cox purposefully introducing errors somehow for these channels? I don't remember it being this way in the past when I didn't have TV service... |

As m8trix noted an external antenna is your best bet for receiving TV OTA. I have an external antenna in my attic as a backup to DIRECTV which I use for TV at my house. |

 | reply to sh10151 m8trix is correct. Go and buy a set of rabbit ears and try them out. You might be able to get the regular broadcast networks(ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and PBS) and maybe some independent broadcast stations. |

 | reply to sh10151 why would you think you would if your not paying for them? |

Does that TV have a ClearQAM tuner, or were you just trying for analog TV channels? I tested with both an old analog only TV (13 inch tube type) and a newer digital HD TV that has both QAM and ASTC (for OTA) tuners. Both received TV just fine via cable before I dropped Cox for TV and Cox subsequently placed a filter on the line. |

When I cancelled my TV service in my apartment, they still "offered" me the lifeline service free of charge probably because the filters prior to the 1 GHz upgrade would have effected my internet performance. This last go around when I cancelled TV service, all channels were gone except for a few public access channels I could care less about. With my rooftop antenna, I get everything from South Mountain as well as some channels from Mt. Lemmon/Bigelow in Tucson. |
