squircle posted : The difference is the VDSL2 profiles. 50/10 is delivered using profile 17a, which uses 17.664 MHz of spectrum to deliver 100Mb/s max downstream, compared to the current 25/10 plans using profile 12a, 12 MHz of spectrum to deliver maximum 68Mb/s downstream.

In case you ask the question "why couldn't they use 12a for both", it's that these maximum downstream values could only realistically be experienced with extremely short cable lengths; more spectrum is needed to deliver the higher speeds over longer distances.

This is also the reason 50/10 is only offered in very specific areas.
jasmo34 posted : Would the new 50/10/175 FTTN plan use the exact same technology as the older 25/10 plan?

Would it use the same VDSL modem as 25/10 (with mandatory rental from Bell)?

If 25M DL works at a location, should 50M work, or might the line condition still restrict the DL speed to less than 50M?

Pricing Details, and FEATURES tab mention minimum speeds... "Actual speeds will vary depending on the distance between the customer’s modem and switching equipment from Bell : min. 46 Mbps and max. 50 Mbps down speeds; Min. 9 Mbps and max.10 Mbps up speeds."

Pretty good 'Minimum' speeds there, but the Overview and Specifications sections do not specify any minimum figures. Confusing website specs, as usual.

Just wondering about the technical aspects of this new plan; not the "value"!
