Re: [Internet] New 50/10/175 FTTN plan The difference is the VDSL2 profiles. 50/10 is delivered using profile 17a, which uses 17.664 MHz of spectrum to deliver 100Mb/s max downstream, compared to the current 25/10 plans using profile 12a, 12 MHz of spectrum to deliver maximum 68Mb/s downstream.
In case you ask the question "why couldn't they use 12a for both", it's that these maximum downstream values could only realistically be experienced with extremely short cable lengths; more spectrum is needed to deliver the higher speeds over longer distances.
This is also the reason 50/10 is only offered in very specific areas. Even though I'm 60m loop length from my JWI, I can't get 50/10 because I am served by an old Lucent Stinger DSLAM and not the newer Alcatel-Lucent 7330 DSLAM. |
