King Richard III

A historical mystery that stumped British experts for centuries appears to have finally been solved, thanks to a DNA sample from a Canadian family.

Scientists say they have found the 500-year-old remains of England's King Richard III under a parking lot in the city of Leicester.

University of Leicester researchers said today it is "beyond reasonable doubt" that a battle-scarred skeleton unearthed last year is the king, who died at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485.

How do you lose the remains of a King? Pretty cool they can determine a positive I.D. after all this time.

LOL, London real-estate is horribly expensive.

It's interesting that they had been able to extract usable DNA from the body given its age and burial conditions.

Is this the same King Richard as in the Robin Hood mythos?

No. That only happened in Shakespeare's hopelessly distorted and highly fictionalized play. Think modern Hollywood movies take liberties with the facts for the sake of a roaring good story? Bill was the original spinmeister, spinning whatever would sell a ticket! His "historical plays" are a study in drama, not history. If he were living today Bill would probably be a Hollywood tycoon putting Spielberg to shame!

Now if only they could prove/disprove King Arthur and the mythos of Camelot...

Re: King Richard III

They proved the ID by using a DNA sample from his distant relative. Who happened to be a Canadian woman. Unfortunately, she was deceased, but her son was able to provide them with a DNA sample (the traits they were testing for are only passed down on the female side).

Awesome news story. Was reading that this morn on BBC. Of course carbon dating is not approved by the catholic church but pedophile dating is covertly tolerated.
