To try Mac, you need to buy a new or used Mac (unless you can find a friend or someone who will loan you one). So, my suggestion is to try Linux first, then if you really find out that it's not what you want of need, get a Mac.
Start with one of the "everything works out of the box" distros such as Mint.
FWIW, I use both Linux and Mac; I prefer Linux.
