15" Retina vs. Non Retina

I hear the hard drive and memory in the retina are not end user upgradable, is this true? And if it is, does it also mean the non retina is not upgradeable?

Thanks,
Jet

Re: 15" Retina vs. Non Retina

The non Retina models are user upgradeable. The Retina models are not.

The SSD in the retina is upgradable but doesn't use standard parts. You have to have a drive made specifically for the retina model. I upgraded my retina to the 512GB (480GB after 7% OP) SSD from OWC. It is the same type of thing with the MBA...proprietary SSDs, but they are removable from their slots. OWC also provides an external exclosure for the old retina SSD should you choose that option.

As mentioned by the previous poster, the RAM in the retina is not upgradable, it's soldered to the board.

The stupid thing is if you take the non-retina version and add an SSD and ram you are close to the price of the retina......and the screen and decreased size on the retina are so worth it.
