Why?

It kills me that I have FTTP from AT&T yet I have to subscribe to Charter to get 100Mbit service while the fiber is stuck at a whopping 18Mbit.

AT&T, you suck.

Yeah but the charter 100Mb rocks thats what i have and i will never go backwards. You must have the BPON unit, these were the first gen and the newer GPON will get 24Mb, a whooping 25% of charters, it,s like fast dialup.

When were GPONs implemented? The fiber was installed when the house was built in 2008.

It rather amazes me that so many people complain about speeds above 3mb, while I have DSL 3m/512k here that actually does 2.4/300 on a good day. I would be happy just to get 10/3 or something like that. 50/50mb sounds like pie in the sky to this recent dialup user.

hahaha, right?! my parents can only get 1.5/384 DSL and it's awful. 63dB attenuation, disconnects frequently, etc... going on 5+ years of service with no changes..

LightS are you in Greenville Texas? if so how is the dual coax plant competition there? I know that they have the local power co-op 860MHz plant and then TWC's 750MHz plant and both are offering at least 50Mbits down as the top package TWC maybe even offering 75Mbps down in Greenville right now as they do in Dallas and surrounding areas. I have a feeling Greenville Texas has a very low penetration of DSL users in town with both cable operators offering pretty fast speeds for the size of the city.

Yes, I am.

I'm not 100% sure about competition, because I only moved here very recently (last August) and into an Apartment. We only have a choice of GEUS (the local co-op).

I have the local co-op, and my plan is for 30/2. I get about 27/2.7mbps - however, it's not very reliable and slows down heavily on the weekends. Top package from the Co-Op is 50/2 @ $95.95/mo (including $7/mo modem rental fee). TWC is not offering 75mbps here, only 50/5. The co-op is pretty hard to work with as well... not very impressed with them so far.

As far as DSL.. I live really close to the "main" part of town, if you can call it that, and AT&T offers 6mbps. No U-Verse available here.
