Powerboost gone for you? Post here

Comcast is apparently in the process of deprecating powerboost.

Post here if you've received the speed update or just have lost powerboost entirely (not to be confused with slower than usual powerboost). If possible, verify with shaperprobe.

1) Post your State
2) Post your City
3) Speed tier (if known)
4) Post shaperprobe results

You can include what modem you are using.

Since shaperprobe gives actual speed and not powerboost speeds, how can we verify using it?

It shows both. No PB would show up as burst speeds around the speeds of the shaped rates.

DiffProbe release. January 2012.
Shaper Detection Module.

Connected to server 83.212.4.36.

Estimating capacity:
Upstream: 3875 Kbps.
Downstream: 20748 Kbps.

The measurement will last for about 2.5 minutes. Please wait.

Checking for traffic shapers:

Upstream: No shaper detected.
Median received rate: 3808 Kbps.

Downstream: Burst size: 9779-9900 KB; Shaping rate: 17024 Kbps.

Honestly, I like this WAY MORE than 12/2 with a few seconds of powerboost. I get ~21K down for PB, but I don't think that adds much and could live without it.

No shaping here.

You should probably also ask for the Tier level. I'm currently on the 50/10 Tier level which shows as "Blast" on my bill.

Modem is Zoom Telephonics 5341 (fw: 1.4.0.31pre5)

1) NJ
2) Delran
3)

Edit: Here's the old shaperprobe I ran on July 25, 2012, when I first got 50/10 Blast. It was more reliable back then and you can see I didn't have PB back then either.

The Shaperproble servers aren't particularly reliable these days. The upload speeds detected are way too low (anywhere from 1 to 5 Mbps vs my actual 10 Mbps) and the first time I ran it, it "detected" shaping at 30 Mbps, when none exists. The second time it did not detect a shaper and gave my proper download speeds.

Basically the shaperprobe test needs to be run multiple times to get an accurate result.

Test 1:

DiffProbe release. January 2012. Build 1008.
Shaper Detection Module.

Connected to server 83.212.4.36.

Estimating capacity:
Upstream: 5688 Kbps.
Downstream: 49918 Kbps.

The measurement will take upto 2.5 minutes. Please wait.

Checking for traffic shapers:

Upstream: No shaper detected.
Median received rate: 5600 Kbps.

Downstream: Burst size: 23590-24332 KB;
Shaping rate: 30837 Kbps.

For more information, visit: http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~partha/diffprobe

Test 2:
DiffProbe release. January 2012. Build 1008.
Shaper Detection Module.

Connected to server 72.26.217.87.

Estimating capacity:
Upstream: 4141 Kbps.
Downstream: 52858 Kbps.

The measurement will take upto 2.5 minutes. Please wait.

Checking for traffic shapers:

Upstream: No shaper detected.
Median received rate: 3864 Kbps.

Downstream: No shaper detected.
Median received rate: 52416 Kbps.

Good idea re: tier level.

The 50/10 has never (as far as I know) had powerboost. Neither does the 100 tier.

You still have powerboost. Upstream and downstream estimated capacities are greater than the shaping rate, which is indicative of powerboost.

Someone with no powerboost would have upstream/downstream estimated numbers right around the same as the shaping rate.

And it usually states "no shaper detected".

According to my bill, Blast supposedly includes Powerboost.

My numbers REALLY, REALLY suck. I don't even get close to the former 25 Mbps.

Perhaps I should file a complaint with the FCC? I don't get anywhere near the service I'm supposed to get. And look at the shaping rates shaperprobe reported.

I'm not even a heavy user. Household of only 2 middle-aged adults.

Or perhaps you could try opening your own thread in this forum for help with your speed problem? If you do, Please include this information in your post when requesting help.

Have you done any troubleshooting yourself, or called Comcast about your speed problem?

Yes and yes. No trouble on my end. Comcast claims advertised speeds are "up to..." Calling Comcast yields no resolution.
