They are set by the CMTS and it can vary by CMTS brand Cisco has it to where each individual downstream is numbered so you could have downstreams 64,65,66,67,68,69,70,71 and on an ARRIS CMTS the channels numbers are set by the bonding group so each bonding group has its set of 8 channels max (current generation modems support only 8 and so does the CMTS IOS right now). ]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[tonyram57 posted : I notice with my SB5101U which is a DOCSIS 2.0 modem sometimes my downstream and upstream channel will change.  Sometimes I will be 297Mhz downstream and upstream will be on channel ID 17 then it will change to something like 309Mhz and the upstream channel ID 18.<br><br>The thing is that when it does this it will stop my connection for a few seconds which is annoying when I am streaming music.  Since DOCSIS 2.0 only does one channel and 3.0 does channel bonding will it make a difference since the channels are bonded if one changes or go down will it stop the connection for a few seconds or will it be seamless.<br><br>Also I do notice a pattern as it will do it around 3 to 4PM EST then be fine for the rest of the night.]]></description>
