A month ago, I went to the video torn store downtown in Montreal.
I was playing with their galaxy s3 and the signal kept hopping between 4g and Hspa.

I just assumed 4g meant Hspa+.
Is that right?

Or does the galaxy s3 consider let as 4g?

The "G" thing has become a network marketing gimmick over time. Some networks advertise HSPA+ as 4G but it's still an upgrade over a 3G technology. Officially HSPA, HSDPA, HSPA+ are 3.5G technologies. I believe 4G on Samsung devices mean LTE.

No. In North America, LTE model are superior than 4G.

I mean with HSPA+ the Android OS will show H, not 4G.

It's probably not based on the OS, but based on the model.
Because on my Samsung Galaxy (Android 4.0), it says, LTE, 4G for HSPA+, E for edge, and I think G for 1G (not sure, it doesn't really happen...).

GSM/GPRS is G. Still 2G. 1G was analog.
UMTS is 3G
HSPA/HSPA+ is H or H+. Except in basterized versions of Android for north american providers where it is 4G

Aren't we in a North American forum? So I wouldn't say 4G is an "exception"...
