But there isn't going to be anything done, because the US wants the St. Clair River channel deep for shipping. Well actually it's the US shipping companies...which amounts to the same thing.

Its not just the large lakes...the smaller lakes that I'm sure are not being pilfered for their water are being just as effected as well...nitz's gf's father said he had never seen the lake where they have their camp with such a low water level.

Unless there's someone out there bottling Lake Kagawong water (on Manitoulin Island)...that I'm not aware of lol.

Part of the issue has been the relatively dry winters the past couple of years....probably + the bottling of water from areas hasn't helped things...

We've had a more typical winter up here so far and lots of snow so I feel like the levels will be up a bit come next year...

Yes, apparently if they were to add speed bumps it should slow it down.

Gotta ask the question, though, have we, as people, ever found a way not to screw something up?

Lake Michigan and Lake Huron hit the lowest water levels ever recorded on the Great Lakes.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said tests taken in January show the lakes were 29 inches below their long-term average and had declined 17 inches since January 2012.

The other Great Lakes, Superior, Erie and Ontario were also well below average.

Scientists say the drought and other natural forces, along with dredging of rivers that drain from the lakes, have contributed to the level drops.
