Re: Great Lakes at lowest levels since records began in 1918 This is a disaster for boaters, especially those with deep-keel sailboats. Some of the most beautiful waterways in the world around Georgian Bay and the North Channel are shallow at the best of times, and these have been hit the hardest. With water at this level, some of these waterways become dangerous or entirely unnavigable. We're losing a part of our national heritage.
