Last I heard was 20+ inches between Providence and Boston. We'll be lucky to see 12 inches along the west end of Lake Ontario.

Thanks for leaving the header line. Most people strip out my website in those.

with all due respect to your server the original SWS were lifted directly off EC's Site.

And I care why? I wasn't responding to the OP I was responding to the post that had my data.
And I still send out the data 10-15mins faster then EC posts it online.

Snowstorm from Southern Ontario to Atlantic Canada
February 06, 2013; 5:42 PM
Very busy day here today in the office doing snow warning. I have found some time to issue my thoughts on snowfall.
We favor a blend of the GFS and the ECMWF model for this storm. The expected track of the initial, primary storm is quite favorable for significant snow across southern and eastern Ontario before it gets absorbed by the coastal storm.
Heaviest snow for the GTA will be late Thursday night into midday Fri, then lighter in the afternoon.
Heaviest snow for southern New Brunswick, through PEI and Nova Scotia will be late Friday night into Saturday with blizzard conditions.
This storm should be all snow for Canada, though a little mixing initially near Windsor.
Sarnia, Ont....10-20 cm
Windsor, Ont....6-14 cm
London, Ont....10-20 cm
St. Catharines, Ont.....10-20 cm
Hamilton, Ont.....15-25 cm
Kitchener, Ont.....15-25 cm
Brampton/Toronto, Ont.....20-28 cm
Barrie, Ont.....20-25 cm
Bracebridge, Ont....8-12 cm
Peterborough, Ont....20-28 cm
Kingston, Ont.....15-25 cm
Cornwall, Ont....12-22 cm
Ottawa, Ont.....10-20 cm
Montreal, Que....10-15 cm
Pembroke, Ont....6-12 cm
Sherbrooke, Que....6-12 cm
Quebec City....2-5 cm
Southwest Nova Scotia.....25-35 cm
Much of the rest of Nova Scotia, southern new Brunswick and the eastern two thirds of PEI....20-30 cm
Fredericton, NB.....10-20 cm
Moncton, NB......18-25 cm
Bathhurst, NB.....4-8 cm

I'm thinking that EC will have dropped the ball on some of the areas along the Lake Erie shore when all is said and done, at least certainly here in Niagara. EC downgrades South Niagara to an SWS, yet the Americans are calling for 6-12" of snow in Erie County. I'll take what the Americans say over the Canadians in this kind of situation any day.

What's the parameters of closing the runways at Pearson, and in which order? Anybody know?

Visibility distance?
X cm of snow per hour?
X cm of snow actually on the runway?
How much snow can they clear off a runway per hour? What's that figure?

I know they brine runways like they do roads now, so snow accumulation isnt much an issue.

1/2 km according to the chart is the visibility minimums.

Niagara Falls - Welland - Southern Niagara Region
3:35 PM EST Thursday 07 February 2013
Freezing rain warning for
Niagara Falls - Welland - Southern Niagara Region issued

With the winter storm centre forecast to track over or very close to Lake Erie on Friday, latest indications suggest the most significant part of this winter storm will be freezing rain which is expected to arrive over the extreme southwest later this evening then spreading quickly east to remaining districts overnight.

The freezing rain will be mixed with ice pellets and snow and may briefly change over to plain rain in parts of Essex and Kent counties if the temperature manages to nudge just above the zero degree mark tonight.

However as the storm centre passes by, colder air will quickly return and cause the precipitation to change over to snow with a few cm possible over southwestern sections and as high as 10 cm possible towards the southern part of Niagara.

These regions will be very close to the heavy snow - freezing rain boundary. Even a small change in the exact track of the storm centre may significantly change how much snow or freezing rain may fall at a particular locale. Motorists and pedestrians should be prepared for untreated surfaces to become icy and treacherous from the freezing rain. Low visibility in heavier snow is also possible in locales that receive an accumulating snowfall. Travel plans should be altered accordingly.

The precipitation will end in western sections Friday morning and elsewhere during the afternoon as the storm centre moves away.

A Texas low will track northeast across Illinois this evening then follow a path over Lake Erie into Western New York State or Northern Pennsylvania on Friday. The storm centre will move away Friday night and merge with another winter storm forecast to affect parts of New England and the Maritimes.

Please refer to your local public forecast for further details.

Starting to snow pretty good in Barrie...

Calling for somewhere in the 6" range (10-15 cm), more if we get into the lake-flakes.

Blower is ready to roll; only used it once so far this season...

The stuff hitting now isn't even the main part of the storm. It looks like it's lake-based.

Either way, down here no one can agree. Canadians are saying we're only going to get 10cm of snow with a lot of freezing rain before. Americans are saying the freezing rain will remain south and we're going to get 10-14" (25-35cm) here in the "Buffalo area."

I'm hedging my bets on the Americans, but anything is possible. If the Canadians are wrong, there are going to be a lot of pissed off people in Niagara Falls who have a newspaper telling them that they will miss the worst of the storm and that they are only going to end up with 10cm of snow (a newspaper also ignoring, of course, all the freezing rain that in of itself could make things even worse)

=NEW= STRATHROY - KOMOKA - WESTERN MIDDLESEX COUNTY
=NEW= SIMCOE - DELHI - NORFOLK
=NEW= DUNNVILLE - CALEDONIA - HALDIMAND
=NEW= NIAGARA FALLS - WELLAND - SOUTHERN NIAGARA REGION.

WITH THE WINTER STORM CENTRE FORECAST TO TRACK OVER OR VERY
CLOSE TO LAKE ERIE ON FRIDAY, LATEST INDICATIONS SUGGEST THE
MOST SIGNIFICANT PART OF THIS WINTER STORM WILL BE FREEZING
RAIN WHICH IS EXPECTED TO ARRIVE OVER THE EXTREME SOUTHWEST
LATER THIS EVENING THEN SPREADING QUICKLY EAST TO REMAINING
DISTRICTS OVERNIGHT.

THE FREEZING RAIN WILL BE MIXED WITH ICE PELLETS AND SNOW AND
MAY BRIEFLY CHANGE OVER TO PLAIN RAIN IN PARTS OF ESSEX AND
KENT COUNTIES IF THE TEMPERATURE MANAGES TO NUDGE JUST ABOVE
THE ZERO DEGREE MARK TONIGHT.

HOWEVER AS THE STORM CENTRE PASSES BY, COLDER AIR WILL QUICKLY
RETURN AND CAUSE THE PRECIPITATION TO CHANGE OVER TO SNOW WITH
A FEW CM POSSIBLE OVER SOUTHWESTERN SECTIONS AND AS HIGH AS
10 CM POSSIBLE TOWARDS THE SOUTHERN PART OF NIAGARA.

THESE REGIONS WILL BE VERY CLOSE TO THE HEAVY SNOW - FREEZING
RAIN BOUNDARY. EVEN A SMALL CHANGE IN THE EXACT TRACK OF THE
STORM CENTRE MAY SIGNIFICANTLY CHANGE HOW MUCH SNOW OR FREEZING
RAIN MAY FALL AT A PARTICULAR LOCALE.

MOTORISTS AND PEDESTRIANS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR UNTREATED
SURFACES TO BECOME ICY AND TREACHEROUS FROM THE FREEZING RAIN.
LOW VISIBILITY IN HEAVIER SNOW IS ALSO POSSIBLE IN LOCALES THAT
RECEIVE AN ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL. TRAVEL PLANS SHOULD BE
ALTERED ACCORDINGLY.

THE PRECIPITATION WILL END IN WESTERN SECTIONS FRIDAY MORNING
AND ELSEWHERE DURING THE AFTERNOON AS THE STORM CENTRE MOVES
AWAY.

SNOWFALL WARNING FOR:
=NEW= BROCKVILLE - LEEDS AND GRENVILLE
=NEW= CORNWALL - MORRISBURG
CITY OF TORONTO
LONDON - PARKHILL - EASTERN MIDDLESEX COUNTY

LIGHT SNOW EXPECTED IN MOST AREAS THIS EVENING IN A SWATH OF
REGIONS EXTENDING FROM LAKE HURON TO WESTERN LAKE ONTARIO.
HOWEVER A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IS EXPECTED OVERNIGHT.

THIS TEXAS LOW WILL INTENSIFY INTO A MAJOR WINTER STORM AS IT
APPROACHES SOUTHERN ONTARIO TOWARDS MORNING. AN EXPANDING AREA
OF HEAVY SNOW IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO WESTERN PARTS OF
SOUTHERN ONTARIO NEAR LAKE HURON BEGINNING THIS EVENING THEN
SPREAD EAST ACROSS REMAINING REGIONS OVERNIGHT OR EARLY FRIDAY
MORNING.

THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL OCCUR DURING THE FRIDAY MORNING RUSH
HOUR ALONG THE HIGHWAY 401 CORRIDOR FROM LONDON ACROSS WATERLOO
REGION AND THE GREATER TORONTO. HEAVY SNOW WILL SPREAD QUICKLY
EAST DURING THE DAY TO AFFECT KINGSTON THROUGH BROCKVILLE TO
CORNWALL. STRONG AND GUSTY NORTHEASTERLY WINDS WILL WHIP UP
THE FRESHLY FALLEN SNOW AND RESULT IN VERY LOW VISIBILITY AT
TIMES IN BLOWING SNOW.

TOTAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 15 TO 25 CENTIMETRES ARE LIKELY
ACROSS THE REGIONS. SNOWFALL RATES OF 2 TO 4 CENTIMETRES PER
HOUR ARE POSSIBLE DURING THE HEAVIEST SNOW, AND IF THIS OCCURS,
NEAR ZERO VISIBILITY IN THE HEAVY SNOW MAY BE A SIGNIFICANT
ISSUE TO DEAL WITH.

HAZARDOUS WINTER TRAVELLING CONDITIONS FROM NEAR ZERO
VISIBILITY AREAS OF HEAVY SNOW AND LOCAL BLOWING SNOW ARE
EXPECTED ESPECIALLY ON FRIDAY. RAPIDLY ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL
ALSO CONTRIBUTE TO DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. TRAVEL PLANS
SHOULD BE CHANGED ACCORDINGLY.

THE SNOW WILL END IN AREAS WEST OF THE GREATER TORONTO AREA IN

SNOW ASSOCIATED WITH A TROUGH AHEAD OF A TEXAS LOW WILL SPREAD
INTO THE REGIONS THIS EVENING THEN QUICKLY BECOME HEAVY AT
TIMES OVERNIGHT AND TOWARDS MORNING AS THE LOW GETS CLOSER TO
SOUTHERN ONTARIO AND INTENSIFIES INTO A MAJOR WINTER STORM.

THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL OCCUR DURING THE FRIDAY MORNING RUSH
HOUR ON FRIDAY AND MAY CONTINUE UNTIL NEAR NOON. STRONG AND
GUSTY NORTHEASTERLY WINDS WILL WHIP UP THE FRESHLY FALLEN SNOW
AND RESULT IN VERY LOW VISIBILITY AT TIMES IN BLOWING SNOW.

TOTAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 25 TO 30 CENTIMETRES ARE LIKELY
ACROSS THE REGIONS. SNOWFALL RATES OF 3 TO 5 CENTIMETRES PER
HOUR ARE POSSIBLE DURING THE HEAVIEST SNOW. IF THIS OCCURS,
NEAR ZERO VISIBILITY IN VERY HEAVY SNOW WILL BE A SIGNIFICANT
ISSUE TO DEAL WITH.

HAZARDOUS WINTER TRAVELLING CONDITIONS FROM NEAR ZERO
VISIBILITY AREAS OF HEAVY SNOW AND LOCAL BLOWING SNOW ARE
EXPECTED ESPECIALLY ON FRIDAY. RAPIDLY ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL
ALSO CONTRIBUTE TO DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. TRAVEL PLANS

==DISCUSSION==

A TEXAS LOW WILL TRACK NORTHEAST ACROSS ILLINOIS THIS EVENING THEN
FOLLOW A PATH OVER LAKE ERIE INTO WESTERN NEW YORK STATE OR NORTHERN
PENNSYLVANIA ON FRIDAY. THE STORM CENTRE WILL MOVE AWAY FRIDAY NIGHT
AND MERGE WITH ANOTHER WINTER STORM FORECAST TO AFFECT PARTS OF NEW
ENGLAND AND THE MARITIMES.

THE REGIONS WILL BE CLOSER TO THE NORTHERN EDGE OF THE LARGE
SNOW SHIELD ASSOCIATED WITH THE INTENSIFYING WINTER STORM. AS A
RESULT, WHILE A SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED, INDICATIONS
SUGGEST IT WILL BE JUST SHY OF THE 15 CM PER 12 HOUR SNOWFALL
WARNING CRITERION.

TOTAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 10 TO 20 CENTIMETRES ARE LIKELY ACROSS
SOUTHERN PARTS OF THE REGIONS INCLUDING PARTS OF MUSKOKA ACROSS
BANCROFT AND THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION AND EAST INTO PRESCOTT AND
RUSSELL.

BRISK NORTHEASTERLY WINDS WILL CAUSE REDUCED VISIBILITY IN SOME
BLOWING SNOW IN EXPOSED AREAS, PARTICULARLY IN THE OTTAWA VALLEY.

WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS WILL DETERIORATE AND BECOME DIFFICULT AT
TIMES DUE TO LOW VISIBILITY IN SNOW AND UNTREATED ROADS BECOMING
SNOW COVERED AND SLIPPERY. TRAVEL INTO THE ST LAWRENCE VALLEY, THE
MONTREAL AREA, OR SOUTHERN ONTARIO IS NOT RECOMMENDED AS VARIOUS
WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT THERE.

ENVIRONMENT CANADA IS CLOSELY MONITORING THE SITUATION. IF THE
WINTER STORM TRACKS A LITTLE CLOSER TO THE REGIONS OR BECOMES LARGER
THAN EXPECTED, WARNINGS MAY BE ISSUED FOR SOME THE REGIONS AS
REQUIRED.

THE PUBLIC IS ADVISED TO MONITOR FUTURE FORECASTS AND WARNINGS AS
WARNINGS MAY BE REQUIRED OR EXTENDED.
