Re: [Weather] Special weather statements ON, NB, NS, NL

My car hasn't really even become too dirty yet this winter. Aside from one trip up near Minden, it's stayed clean.

Last I heard was 20+ inches between Providence and Boston. We'll be lucky to see 12 inches along the west end of Lake Ontario.

yeah well if we see that amount its going to be very difficult travel. Lots of late pizza delivery and stuff like that.

Actually my favorite local pizzeria is only pickup. Yet one more reason for good snow tires.

Upgraded to a winter storm warning for around here. Coincidentally I'm home tomorrow with my kids so the timing is perfect.

Thanks for leaving the header line. Most people strip out my website in those.

with all due respect to your server the original SWS were lifted directly off EC's Site.

And I care why? I wasn't responding to the OP I was responding to the post that had my data.
And I still send out the data 10-15mins faster then EC posts it online.

Snowstorm from Southern Ontario to Atlantic Canada
February 06, 2013; 5:42 PM
Very busy day here today in the office doing snow warning. I have found some time to issue my thoughts on snowfall.
We favor a blend of the GFS and the ECMWF model for this storm. The expected track of the initial, primary storm is quite favorable for significant snow across southern and eastern Ontario before it gets absorbed by the coastal storm.
Heaviest snow for the GTA will be late Thursday night into midday Fri, then lighter in the afternoon.
Heaviest snow for southern New Brunswick, through PEI and Nova Scotia will be late Friday night into Saturday with blizzard conditions.
This storm should be all snow for Canada, though a little mixing initially near Windsor.
Sarnia, Ont....10-20 cm
Windsor, Ont....6-14 cm
London, Ont....10-20 cm
St. Catharines, Ont.....10-20 cm
Hamilton, Ont.....15-25 cm
Kitchener, Ont.....15-25 cm
Brampton/Toronto, Ont.....20-28 cm
Barrie, Ont.....20-25 cm
Bracebridge, Ont....8-12 cm
Peterborough, Ont....20-28 cm
Kingston, Ont.....15-25 cm
Cornwall, Ont....12-22 cm
Ottawa, Ont.....10-20 cm
Montreal, Que....10-15 cm
Pembroke, Ont....6-12 cm
Sherbrooke, Que....6-12 cm
Quebec City....2-5 cm
Southwest Nova Scotia.....25-35 cm
Much of the rest of Nova Scotia, southern new Brunswick and the eastern two thirds of PEI....20-30 cm
Fredericton, NB.....10-20 cm
Moncton, NB......18-25 cm
Bathhurst, NB.....4-8 cm

I'm thinking that EC will have dropped the ball on some of the areas along the Lake Erie shore when all is said and done, at least certainly here in Niagara. EC downgrades South Niagara to an SWS, yet the Americans are calling for 6-12" of snow in Erie County. I'll take what the Americans say over the Canadians in this kind of situation any day.

What's the parameters of closing the runways at Pearson, and in which order? Anybody know?

Visibility distance?
X cm of snow per hour?
X cm of snow actually on the runway?
How much snow can they clear off a runway per hour? What's that figure?

I know they brine runways like they do roads now, so snow accumulation isnt much an issue.

1/2 km according to the chart is the visibility minimums.

Starting to get faxes from suppliers up in the GTA announcing that they're closed tomorrow. Looks like no one is taking any chances.

I asked my boss if tomorrow is a snow day..

I was told I'm not allowed one since I live so close to work (next major street over). Tried the "but I have to drop Nathan at daycare.." but nope.
