Perhaps a reference or two to "dinosaur" might be in order?!

Thanks for all the mischief and laughter, my friends. It seems to be working.

At 18 weeks and 2 days post op followup, I have been declared FWB!!!! Starting with one crutch on the opposite side, working toward walking in unassisted for, hopefully, the last follow-up in Ortho about four weeks from now.

My knee began feeling ready for this about three days ago. Now to keep from tripping over something ...

No tripping. I'm just running around doing all those errands I couldn't do before and that I felt were not imperative, so didn't want to ask.

The new freedom is kinda' fun. For now, anyways.

Thanks, friends, for staying with me on this journey. You helped in big bunches to stay upbeat and it has meant more to me than I can ever express.

While there will, hopefully, be improvements for at least another year, I am just now reaching probably the most meaningful one of the whole journey.

This is Day 3 of me actually walking all through the house, outdoors on my inclined driveway and street, all through stores doing my necessary shopping, as well as to and from the car for physical therapy, the Orthopedics Dept. for appointments and the gym. By "actually walking," I mean walking without walker/crutches/cane, walking with an increasingly normal pace and gate with NO limping. My leg feels amazingly normal considering all that hardware in there. Can I tell it is there? Yes, but it doesn't seem to be holding back the progress we want to see.

And, yesterday. YESTERDAY! Yesterday I found myself going up and down my stairs just carrying that crutch without needing to use it!

If I can do this for seven days straight, I can claim 27 June 2013 as my goal for walking unassisted FWB 24/7 accomplished! There is much work ahead to get it the best it can be, but I now have no doubt I'm going to get back on my big Precor AMT.

P. S. Coming home from errands just a little while ago I saw Dr. Tom, had not seen him or his wife for several weeks. He expected some progress from last time, but he was blown away when he saw me walking. This reassures me because, if there had been even a hint of a misstep, he would have pointed it out.

Yay.

One of my sisters used to race semi professionally. Snow mobiles. She had a horrible wreck and could have died, massive injuries all over. Like you, she's sewn and bolted together like an erector set. Looking at her you wouldn't know it, and she still rides and rides rough.

Every time I see her I think about you too. So thankful your progress has been good. All the reminds me just how lucky I am at nearly 55 to be able to walk up a steep hill, albeit panting along the way.

Just keep being careful we need you, you know!

Dismissed by Orthopedics, except for P.T.! I'm free to do whatever that knee can/will do.

Starting to get reacquainted with Sir Oliver Rathbone (my Precor Active Motion Trainer). Gentle start, but it feels soooo good!
