[DVR] AnyRoom DVR Install Thoughts/Negotiations and more...

My experience of negotiating with Comcast and AnyRoom DVR install:

So recently I had TDS Telecom offer me a deal. Their top IPTV package, 50mbps fiber, and a whole home DVR with 3 extra boxes, and modem rental... No premium channels and $50 install fee for approx $150/month with a $200 service credit.

I've been with Comcast for a long time so I called them to see what they could offer. Once I got on the phone and told the rep my intentions, he immediately transferred me to retentions.

I had been paying about $130/month for 2 DVRs, 2 HD STBs, 25mbps Blast internet, and Preferred tv package, and modem rental.

After negotiating, I received Extreme 50 internet, Preferred tv, with 2 premium channels of my choice, AnyRoom DVR with the main dvr and 3 satellite boxes, streampix, modem rental, and free installation/activation of the new services for approx $155/month, I was also given a one time $15 credit.

The deal wasnt "great" by any means, but it was decent considering I didnt have to change service providers and Ive been generally happy with Comcast. I was also given the option to downgrade back to Blast internet that would make my bill approx ~110/month if and when I want to with a note attached to my account for that rate.

The install was 2 days after the call.

I didnt need a new modem since what i have is D3 already (Ubee), so the tech just had them push the new config file. Luckily I have dealt with this tech before and I can tell he knows his stuff pretty well. He came in with the DVR and 3 satellites. Started with the main dvr, took about 5 minutes to swap the box and get it operational. Once he started to install the satellites, he noticed 2 of the 3 were incorrect boxes and he called and got another local tech to come by and get 2 of the correct boxes. Once he had all 3, it only took about 10 mins per box to swap out and get activated, and then maybe another 5 mins each to sync up with the main dvr.

He then tested every box and dvr functionality and everything worked perfect with no hiccups. I then noticed he didnt put a moca filter anywhere. He confirmed this and explained that they work fine without it and usually the moca filters cause more problems anyways. He checked signals on every outlet and verified everything was good and then verified I was getting the correct internet speeds once the new config file was pushed. I'm getting around 61-62 down and 9.8-10 up on average. Also still using same remote controls as before... the standard issue. No time issues on the dvr so far as many people have encountered.

I recently also connected a dta to an extra tv i have in our storage room(rarely used). The box would not activate online or on the automated phone service. The the took care of that while he was here as well, now it works. I've just been too lazy to call about that.

7 hours later and everything is still working properly. The satellite boxes are smaller than the old hd-stb's and the main dvr looks like the old one and is the same size. I'm in a Motorola market and live near Nashville, TN.

So far only 2 things I dont like are, 1. No external clock on the new satellite boxes, and 2. No ability to pause/ff/rew live yv on the satellites, but I knew this before going in.

Relatively good experience, my wife likes the new dvr setup, and 50+mbps is fun!

You have the ability to get fiber to your house? Get that!

The fastest the fiber is from TDS in this area is 50 down/20 up. Im now getting 50 down/10 up from Comcast, and its cheaper than what TDS was going to be. Then once the new Comcast speeds are in place (hopefully next month), I'll have 105 down/20 up. And still cheaper.

Also btw, if anyone is wondering, not having the moca filters is not causing any issues. The Anyroom DVR has been working perfectly since installation.

Man, I'd still get fiber. What about TV PQ? Is the fiber company's any better than Comcast's awful HD?

Unfortunately, I don't know about that. But they(TDS) dont offer NBA TV, and I watch that A LOT! That one was hard to swallow. Also, Comcast has been pretty good here with their services.

You need the MoCA filters as the MoCA signal back feeding into the cable plant can cause trouble. It can also affect the AnyRoom service.

I have my modems on the first splitter and then the MoCA trap going to the second splitter with the three TVs.

I thought I needed them as well. I questioned this during the install. Comcast hasn't contacted me about it (I doubt they would), and I haven't had any issues so far. Also, the neighborhood I live in is a little older and older people live here. I bet no one else in the neighborhood has the Anyroom DVR service to be able to access my devices or cause any issues, at least that I'm aware of..

I have to call them anyways for a billing issue, so I'll inquire about the moca filter issue then.
