WarzauPremium join:2000-10-26 Naperville, IL kudos:1 | Dumbest how to... I have a rice cooker that has time delay, it is nearly 12 years old and the lithium battery finally died. So I was searching online how to replace the batteries. I thought I found one when google had a hit on it. »www.ehow.com/how_7288846_change-···s15.html
WOW how intuitive. What are some of the dumbest DIY how to that you found online. |

Not a how to mail it in. What's next " how to clear a drain" 1. open yellow pages and call plumber. |

All that's missing is a eHow article on how to find a contractor in the yellowpages to do anything |

Re: Dumbest how to... The universal answer seems to be along the lines of "The unit's electronics are powered by a lithium battery which supposedly lasts about four years. When it dies, you have to bring the unit to a service center to get the battery replaced at your expense."
As for me, I'd open it up. -- I don't care what DHS says, never bring scissors to a gunfight. |

All that's missing is a eHow article on how to find a contractor in the yellowpages to do anything I think you are totally wrong. The article is clear -- "The battery is internal and can only be replaced by an authorized Zojirushi Service Center." With an item like this, there is a good chance you have to break a plastic part to open it up and then the battery is soldered in. And no contractor from the yellowpages can repair it either unless they are an authorized service center. This type of appliance is not made to be repaired. Perhaps you haven't noticed but the local small appliance repair business closed the doors back in the 80's because they aren't worth repairing anymore nor are the parts available. [edit] The saddest part of this is that the OP is posting instructions on repairing a breadmaker while they are evidently wanting to repair a rice cooker. For the OP's benefit, I searched for parts for the correct appliance - a rice cooker -- and found a few parts available. Unfortunately the lithium ion battery is "not available for retail sale". However if they need a lid, carrying handle, latch, or measuring cup then they can be obtained here at ereplacementparts.com » www.ereplacementparts.com/zojiru···295.html |

And items like iPhones and other electronics have non-user replaceable batteries also but there are plenty of how-to videos and the parts available for end users to do it themselves.
So what's your point? |

WarzauPremium join:2000-10-26 Naperville, IL kudos:1 | reply to Warzau Thank you, if that's the case robbin is aiming at then why don't we close up the electronics forum and automotive forums and tell them to go to the dealer, in fact close this forum and say call a expert for every little thing. Places like digikey should be closed as well.
My whole point of the thread was the How to guide wasn't a how to guide at all. |

That was about the age where you also learned to improvise... |
|
 | The battery is probably spot-welded onto a board. If it is a commercial battery, the number should be visible. If you are comfortable working with circuit boards it is no big deal. I replaced a phone cr2025 by simply cutting off the welded tabs. A quick touch of solder and wire to make a replacement lead works fine. A repair shop would likely replace the whole board $$$. |
