Depends where you were. Montreal got over 50-cm (~20 inches) while area's like where I am got over 30 inches from the same storm (spread over 4 days).

The banks all around me around are about 7.5 feet high. I wish I had 2-3' snow banks. But at least it wasn't -40C when I had to shovel. Was only -27C, *phew*. That -40 stings.

BTW, schools didn't close here. Ontario closes their schools for 10cm. :uhh:

There is four mailboxes on the cluster, two for our duplex and two for the neighboring duplex (which is owned by a different landlord).

That snowblower was the best $500 I've ever spent. I bought it on layaway in the summer of 2009 when Sears was getting rid of the previous winter's inventory. I brought it home in a compact car and damaged it on the way. I had to replace a part on it that set me back $12 (a plastic clip that holds the cables). If I could do it over again, I would have gotten a larger one but this one will do.

I've experienced ImOn (when they were McLeod USA), Mediacom, Comcast, and Time Warner. They are much better than broadcast TV.

I have not and will not cut the cord.

I would have gladly taken 2-3 foot drifts over the 5 footers I just had to deal with.

The secret for cleaning the stuff that the city leaves behind (courtesy of the snowplow) is to get it right after the snowplow comes. If you wait, it'll freeze.

The picture of the snowblower is from last spring. Even though it is small, it did the trick.

I am so done with snow. It was awesome until I realized I had 5 FOOT drifts to deal with on the steep part of my driveway. Nevertheless, Incredible that I never got stuck after all that.. and I had no wheel weights, no chains, and no tire ballast. It slipped a few times while trying to get those ridiculous drifts... Amazing that it only slipped those couple of times really... :o

It makes a huge difference whether that snow fell onto an already cold (well below freezing) car or whether the initial snow was first melting and subsequently freezing to put the car into an ice cocoon.

Hands up everybody who has ever cleared snow of a car only to discover part way through that it wasn't their own car they were clearing ? (Been there, done that). Of course that also worked once in my favor when I found my car more then halfway dug out of the snow in the morning :-)

What cuts power in the winter (at least in this area) isn't falling trees, its falling limbs. No wind needed. Wet, heavy snow accumulates on limbs and brings them down and with them power lines. There have even been instances in this area where power lines where brought down only by the ice that built up on them alone, no trees needed.
Of course, it all depends on the type of snowfall and the ambient temps.

Unfortunately... I'll take what I can get for videography services... and that may very well end up being from the inside looking out. ;)

Given the circumstances, I may end up having to go 1st person driver or set it on a stationary object and just get the widest view possible. I'll do my best. And yes, we're about to find out what my Rider's capabilities really are. It's been a beast thus far... I have high hopes. :)
