[Connectivity] Zoom 5341J Blinking Downstream LED??

Hiyas,

Sometime between 1AM to 7AM today, my 5341J's bonded Downstream LED started blinking and has been all day. I thought it would go away or perhaps CC was working on something but as of almost 5PM, it is still blinking. Connectivity is ok as I'm sending this on my connection. I checked the event log and I only see one entry which is "MDD message timeout"

My signals are as follows:

Downstream Bonded Channels
Channel Lock Status Modulation Channel ID Frequency Power SNR Correctables Uncorrectables
1 Locked QAM256 8 735000000 Hz -2.6 dBmV 39.0 dBmV 126 272
2 Locked QAM256 1 693000000 Hz -4.7 dBmV 38.6 dBmV 110 256
3 Locked QAM256 2 699000000 Hz -4.1 dBmV 38.7 dBmV 148 219
4 Locked QAM256 3 705000000 Hz -3.8 dBmV 38.6 dBmV 181 252
5 Locked QAM256 4 711000000 Hz -3.3 dBmV 38.8 dBmV 127 250
6 Locked QAM256 5 717000000 Hz -3.0 dBmV 39.0 dBmV 111 221
7 Locked QAM256 6 723000000 Hz -2.9 dBmV 38.9 dBmV 121 223
8 Locked QAM256 7 729000000 Hz -2.5 dBmV 39.3 dBmV 117 242

Upstream Bonded Channels
Channel Lock Status US Channel Type Channel ID Symbol Rate Frequency Power
1 Locked ATDMA 5 5120 Ksym/sec 29600000 Hz 40.8 dBmV
2 Locked TDMA and ATDMA 4 2560 Ksym/sec 22800000 Hz 39.8 dBmV
3 Locked ATDMA 6 5120 Ksym/sec 36400000 Hz 41.8 dBmV
4 Not Locked Unknown 0 0 Ksym/sec 0 Hz 0.0 dBmV

I noticed the Uncorrectables are more numerous than Correctible errors and I have heard that this can signify issues. So what do you guys think is happening?

Reboot the modem and see if that solves it.

Depress and hold in the recessed reset button on the rear until you see the front panel indicator lights begin to turn off, then release. Now give the modem the time that it needs to fully re-synch with the system. Any difference ?

Yes that did correct the issue as I knew it would; perhaps I should clarify. I was wanting to know what could cause that issue in the first place as my signals (other than the error codes) all looked good so I could prevent this in the future. Now if it's one of those ghost in the machine type issues then I guess I'll just have to press on with life

The blinking receive light on the 5341J means that it is still in the process of searching for one or more download carriers to lock on to.

By resetting the modem back to factory defaults you forced it to re-range for all of its connection parameters from the system and it was successfully negotiated this time. Sometimes it sort of gets stuck. Mine does that sometimes and eventually (12-24 hours) it settles down and the indicator light becomes solidly lit even without resetting it. I wouldn't sweat it.

If you look at the original post, all 8 channels are listed as Locked, as are 3 of the upstream. Maybe one channel did die for a bit, and the modem didn't reset the light after it was restored.

EG my Uncorrectibles are starting to climb again; they outnumber the Correctibles and I've never had that issue. Usually I get very little Correctibles and almost no Uncorrectibles. What could this be an indicator of?

If you have a favored channel and they are climbing on that it be an indication of useage.

As to uncorrectables if they are less than 1% of the total codewords/packets its fine. Ven iof they are more it does not mean there is an issue is just means you need to test your connection out and see if your having issues related to it.

The increases in the uncorrectibles was spread fairly evenly across all 8 channels. And the uncorrectibles outnumbered the correctibles on every channel (And, naturally, in the total codeword count box as well).

I'm not sure what else I can check as I have a brand new homerun of RG-6 (So I'm new RG-6 all the way to the node/tap on the pole; the pole to the house was already RG-6 due to the old line being taken out last year by a tree), my signals (down dBmV, SNR and up power) are within nominal levels, and the last time I called CC, they told me my upstream to the CMTS was solid.

Are their any "conditional" things on the line, note or network that could cause uncorrectibles like that to where there isn't much I can do but hopefully they go away soon type deal? Because I've pretty much ruled out the permanent issues on my end that would cause that. I doubt there's anything wrong with the modem itself.
