Re: [All] Blizzard of '13Ditto here. With the rain yesterday, my driveway melts and then freezes at night. It make it a skating ring. |

I went for my early morning walk. The streets are essentially bare, but the black ice was like a trap waiting for a victim.
The temp now is 46 degrees which should shrink some of the banks on the side of the streets. Should be better walking tomorrow. |

Depends on what news channel I watch. One says it's a miss. The other says plowable snow. Thanks to last weeks storm, we obliterated the normal seasonal snowfall (to date) two fold. |

I guess we didn't get quite enough snow last weekend so we are going to get some more for this one. |

Just yesterday they said this was going to miss us. Now I know who to blame for the turn around! |

You know, I'm flying somewhere to see the same damn band as two winters ago when I got socked with major blizzards three times in a row going to NYC for concerts. Weather Underground seems to think it will just be about an inch during the day on Sunday, so hopefully my evening flight won't be impacted. |

So. I ran out of tobacco and took a short drive to the local market. 3-4 inches is a dustin' and I'm a New Englanda and used to this stuff. Right? I took the "Gravity Route" (downhill) and no problems. Drive slow and be safe. I was behind a plow on 6A. Drove home with no real problems. Until my driveway.
I live on a bit of a hill. All my shoveling had drifted over. I was stuck half-way up my driveway. Years ago, I had a big F-250 Pick-Me-Up-Truck with a snow plow. Years before that, my POP had a station wagon that got stuck on the driveway. Fairly regular basis. I would shovel and sand and direct traffic. POP never screamed or swore, just mutter "God Damn Driveway".
I would like to dedicate this snowfall to the memory of POP and "God Damn Driveway". |

I ran out of beer and other foods. I took a drive to Damriscotta (15 miles) to a small store. The wind is blowing, the snow is blowing. In a nutshell, only an idiot would be on the road. (I am an idiot) But i got my beer! |

Oi, these damn Nor'easters. 6:28p tree nextdoor snaps and takes out half the town's power through 12:42a. At 10:19p cell tower goes down while I'm talking to EMTs on behalf of oxygen dependent neighbor who's battery backup expired. Tower just came back 30mins ago (6am). And JetBlue has the gall to send me G'morning promos to the Caribbean. Never flying the bastards again.
Still blowing but has swung around to NW and less violent. Damn cold dog walk it was this morn. |

Just read a tweet that another "Nor'easter" is possible for Sunday. Though not at all confirmed but this is the third weekend in a row one was predicted. The recent "Blizzard" is the first. Screw it, I am moving to the tropics. |
|
|
Looks like another case where the closer we get to Sunday, the bigger the storm gets......Hope I am very wrong!!! |

I found I missed missed winter and the seasons. My wife and I grew up in Chicago. Tales of cold New England winters aside it is warmer here and we get more snow then the Midwest. That is a good trade-off for me. If I have to be cold I'd much rather look out the window and see snow covered ground then bare dirt. Our friends who lived in Northern Wisconsin found out Propane does not vaporize at -37F. Plus living in the boonies the snow stays pretty clean between snow falls, not like the brown crud in the city after a couple of days. /tom |

The EURO model will give it's prediction around 1pm. I'll stick with what it predicts as it is usually more reliable then the GFS. |
|
|
Right now, the EURO model is predicting the higher snow totals for the Boston area of the two models they are using. One model shows a lot of mixing for southern NE while the EURO shows mostly snow.
OUCH!! |

The EURO just basically laughed at our "big storm" for the weekend. Faster moving and weaker. The fun never ends... |

Maybe southern New England... |

The local forecasters are beginning to waver even for Southern New England. Less is better!! |
