Re: [All] Blizzard of '13

I feel for you guys. I hope you don't lose power. That storm just
left Chicago this morning and we're lucky we only got hit with 5" of
wet snow.

I'm sorry that you only have 5", I's got 9".

I blame my Parents!

The wind is roaring through in those long, sustained, surface-level freight train blows like only a Nor'easter can do. Looking down from the second story onto sweet drift patterns constantly re-forming around the stone walls, trees and parked cars. The angel my 75 year old neighbor lay down and made on her last cigarette outing flew away.

Time to take the dog for his crystal blasting.

Hello New England and all the ships at sea!

Blowin' like a mutha' here!

40 mph on my home anemometer. It doesn't record gusts well.

Not sure about quantity of snow. 4 inches on the front step. Back slider is 2 feet.

Power is blinky and I'm carrying a flashlight. Internet is blinky too.

Yeah, it's hard to tell how much snow is on the ground when it's blowing this much. The drift between the two cars in front of my house is almost windshield-height. But there's only about 2 inches on parts of my front porch. I'm guessing we've got at least a foot.

Boston.com says Mass. has got 345,000 without power right now. The NSTAR outage map looks like the Cape is bearing the brunt of it - you guys must be really getting socked with the wind!

Power blinks are line shorts, more common in high winds.

Nice day to fly a kite
Today: A northwest wind 22 to 24 mph. Wind chill values as low as -5.
Tonite: A northwest wind 11 to 18 mph. Wind chill values as low as -15.

Wind effect. The far end of the neighbor's roof has no snow. Near me it's a drift more than a foot tall.

Snow is pretty much ended here at 9:30 am.

Out in the road which has not been plowed yet, so not affected by drifting, it's 18" in one spot, 20" in another spot.

Here in Milford NH looks like we have about 18" hard to tell with all the drifting. Luckily it is very cold 15F so the snow is very light. Never lost power, only a couple of hundred power outages here in NH. Much worse in Boston area.

We still have a few more hours of snowfall so too soon to go out and try to shovel. Plus the wind will just blow it all back.

Take care all and enjoy the ride.

I don't really feel like going out and measuring, but I feel like I've seen bigger snowfalls than this in Cambridge (I've lived here for a couple of 20+ inch storms). It's hard to tell from my front porch, though!

A neighbors house.

The snow has stopped falling from the clouds here. The air is still full of blowing snow.

Still snowing. But light flurries that won't add anything more to the 26 inches dumped in us. I got my walkway shoveled out. I didn't touch the car though. I can't go anywhere anyway until the drive is plowed.

thats a lawn mower to right? Do you find it can be a bit under powered if you get to much heavy, wet snow? The height (at least how it looks in the video) of the opening looks some what short...how tall is it really?

This is the part of the storm aftermath where I get to sit inside and listen to the incessant wheel-spinning of the people who think they can get their dinky little non-four-wheel-drive cars out in spite of the fact that our street is almost completely impassable. So far this afternoon three different cars have gotten stuck on the street (which means that plows and sand trucks can't get through either). And that's just the ones I've seen from the livingroom window.

So were cops in my town, having a police scanner for events like this pay for itself 10 times over. The dispatcher was asking the cops if they could get to certain parts of my town which was a no except for the center of town, if you wanted to rob a bank all you would need is a snowmobile lol.

It's actually a "jack of many trades": »www.husqvarna.com/us/products/ri···22t-awd/ It's got plenty of power: 22hp B&S powerplant and AWD.

It's deceiving because of how much snow hit the ground... it's a bit over 2 feet from ground to the top of the blower housing (and 42" wide).
