Re: [All] Blizzards of '136 inches of snow in Wormtown and it's still snowing |
|
|
I was hoping this was a dead thread, but we a right back in the thick of it. We only had about four inches at 5AM now it is about 10 inches and still coming down hard. The poor folks on the coast are getting whacked again. The snow we can deal with but to have your property damaged or in a couple of cases demolished is tough to take. Less than two weeks to Spring. |

said by vaxvms:6 inches of snow in Wormtown and it's still snowing » en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wo ··· #CultureWormtown, a nickname for Worcester, was coined by WCUW DJ Lenny Saarinen, about 1978. Saarinen joked that Wormtown would be a fitting name for Worcester as it was a dead town. Later he took on the moniker of LB Worm, the Mayor of Wormtown. At first, the term referred to the local underground punk rock subculture. Later it became used by a few to refer to the city itself. |

Barely a dusting. All melted before noon. Good wind and high tides though. |

Holden 24.4 inches Clinton 23.4 inches Worcester 22.8 inches
It's already stated melting. Monday and Tuesday temps near 50 will wash it down the drain quickly. |

I completely mis-judged this storm. I shoveled out my driveway around 8-8:30 and pulled out into the street. I got a little fishtail on the street, no big during a storm because I'm on a tiny side street that doesn't get tended often. The main streets will be just fine, right?
Wrong. Almost dead wrong.
Route 20, the main US highway through Marlboro, slipping and sliding, saw a couple spin outs. By the time I crept toward 495, I decided to call the day a loss and just kept going straight on down the hill toward Panera, where I spent the next three hours waiting for the storm to end.
It didn't end by noon and my free wi-fi was used up, so I spent the next 30 minutes digging my car out of the parking lot to go drive home. I nearly didn't make it back up the route 20 hill eastbound toward 495, and there were three cars off the side of the road on the hill itself. I don't know how they managed that. I had to drive around and approach my house from another direction because some roads were so bad.
When I finally did get back to my street, I went to stop to shovel out my driveway (it had accumulated another 4" in the 4 hours I was away) and slid into the snowbank on the opposite side. Fortunately, for me, I live on a short 5-house dead-end street, so no worries about other cars coming out. I dug out my driveway, dug out my car and managed to get it *most* of the way in the driveway, just the tail end hanging over the sidewalk that was unplowed anyway.
Snow finally stopped around 3-4, and the plows came along and cleared my little street.
I still have to go into the office tomorrow to do hands-on maintenance, but I think the roads are going to stay clear tonight, so I should be Good to Go. |

If you believe the 'experts' we'll keep getting blasted by more-n-more and bigger-n-bigger blizzards until global warming is stopped. I wonder what caused blizzards before global warming? |
|
|
I remember years ago having three big snowstorms in March and nearly two feet of snow on the ground on a warm Easter Sunday. Global warming wasn't even a figment of Al Gore's imagination back then. |

I love snow. The more, the happier. The caveat, I HATE THE COLD that goes with snow.
If it could snow, and be 70 F, I'd be in heaven. |

I still have about 50% of my property in snow. But the way it is raining tonight, I bet most of it is gone tomorrow. |
