mocycler posted : I can see your point...really though, how much kicking and scratching are you willing to to do for fifty bucks?

I'm not the most experienced traveller in the world, but it's my understanding that when a flight is cancelled you have the option of a full refund (after which you are totally on your own), or they can offer you an alternate flight (which may not be as good a deal as what you signed up for).

By accepting the night flight, you agreed to the deal as-is. I'm not sure you have a leg to stand on; if $50 means that much to you then go for it.

Personally, I would blow it off and file this one under "shit happens". YMMV.

alg posted : I highly doubt you would be able to get any sort of refund from the airline. However, depending on what kind of insurance or travel services that are included on your Amex you might be able to get something out of that but probably highly unlikely.
--
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

Androidian posted : You're likely to not get the $50 difference back.

But who knows? Sometimes it's worth it to complain to AMEX about these things. My suggestion would be to roll the dice and see what happens. The worst that can happen is that you wind up not getting the refund, in which case you're no worse off than you are now.
