 | [Rant] Mediacom Service We have had Mediacom service for about six years. We run a computer and three Xbox's on this line on a "Prime" plan (TV, phone, internet). A year and a half ago, our line was struck by lightening. Our modem fried, along with a few appliances. It took Mediacom at least three service visits and two or three exchanges of modems to minimally "fix" the problem. We ended up getting a booster for the DVR box, because our signals and HD channels weren't coming through. Instead of fixing the problem, they put a band-aid on it. Since that time, our service has still not been the same. We have not been getting the upload and download speeds that we should be on our plan. It's gotten to the point where two of us can't play Xbox at the same time because we have so many connection issues. Despite numerous calls to Mediacom, and at least two emails that have gone unanswered, our service has not been fixed. The last technician told us that to fix it, we would need to dig up and replace the cable line - at our cost. In addition, he indicated that we were on the end of a terminating tap.
Now, they are increasing our fees and limiting our bandwidth. When I called to ask them for a better rate, since we have been without the service that we were paying for in the last 18 months, and possibly to increase the internet to see if it would help, the response was that it would cost an additional $50.00. We already pay $150.00 a month. This is unacceptable. The same plan with Verizon Fios is $30.00 less than the current cost without the increase or $80.00 less than the increased rate.
Unfortunately, in my area, our only provider is Mediacom, and any attempts to negotiate with them have not gone well. When I called to tell them I wanted to cancel two of the services, they had no problem with it. In addition, if we remove all our services except the internet, they want to charge us $100.00 (their current website says that Ultra service for existing customers is 39.99). They didn't offer anything to keep us as a customer, other than to keep our rate at the existing amount.
Extremely disappointed in Mediacom overall. I would never recommend Mediacom to anyone. If I had any other internet provider available, I would definitely be switching services. I'm posting this because no one at Mediacom has been able to deal with this - and I want people who are considering Mediacom to understand what they are getting into. We are not an anomaly. Many locals who have a Verizon option have already switched companies. |
