[modem/router] Replacing a Westell 7500 ppoe with Actiontec GT78

I have a Westell 7500 DSL Modem/Router with Verizon that uses ppoe as I am on the east coast. I have trouble with the modem dropping the internet and I have to turn the modem off/on to reset.

I purchased an Actiontec GT784WN DSL Modem/Router to replace the Westell but I am having trouble. Internet Explorer cannot see the new modem at it's gateway page 192.168.0.1 it says page cannot be found. I know the gateway ip address is correct because I can see it in ipconfig.

If I unplug the DSL line from the modem and power it off/on then I can see the modem configuration page, but once I plug in the DSL, the page disappears.

I have spoken to Actiontec support and they think that I should return the modem, but I am not convinced that it is defective.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Can you post the results of the ipconfig /all command while viewing the modems configuration page?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

This is the ipconfig/all when the configuration (192.168.0.1) for the Actiontec is in IE, the DSL line is not connected because if I connect to that then I cannot see the configuration page:

For comparison, this is the ipconfig /all when the Westell is connected and its configuration page (198.162.1.1) is on the screen. This is working and DSL is connected.

I'd watch for any excessive network activity with that GT784WN. Mine is from Verizon. I really like the gateway but there is activity across from a firmware I can't get rid of.

The ipconfig /all shows that you have multiple adapters that are active.
You should disable the wireless lan adapter or the ethernet lan adapter.

I had the same problem on a different computer that does not have wireless. This was just a temporary place to try to configure this modem.
