Special Weather Statement for Ontario

Looks like round two. Though not as severe in terms of accumulation, it might make the morning commute on Monday complete hell:

A Colorado low will bring a mixed bag of precipitation to
Southern Ontario Sunday night.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
==discussion==
A low pressure system developing over Colorado will intensify and
move northeastward into Wisconsin by Sunday evening then continue
across the Nickel Belt through Monday.

A warm front will bring a mixed bag of precipitation across Southern
Ontario Sunday night into Monday morning.

Rain will start in the Windsor area early Sunday evening then spread
across the rest of Southwestern Ontario as the warm front moves
eastward. South Central Ontario has the potential for a few hours of
freezing rain before changing to rain as the precipitation arrives
later in the evening.

Further north and east snow will start late evening or overnight with
amounts of 5 to 10 cm possible into Monday morning. There is also
the chance for some freezing rain or ice pellets which would reduce
the amount of snow.

The precipitation will slowly come to an end through the day on
Monday.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as
warnings may be required or extended.

Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment
Canada at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca

In South and SW Ontario including the GTA, temps will be above freezing overnight Sunday, staying above most of Monday.

This will be an all rain event for those areas, though there is a chance of mixed precip farther north.

I could see some damage happening if we get too much rain...maybe not at my house, but places in general.

I was on the ladder today pulling down as much snow as I could from the roof of our attached garage. The house roof has a pretty steep pitch so there was very little snow left over.

I just turned my snow shovel over and "raked" the snow off. No need for a fancy roof shovel.

I also spent part of yesterday clearing the snow away from the perimeter of the house.

My roof doesn't have a real steep pitch. I'm guessing it rises about 8 feet as it goes back about 25 linear feet or so..(50 feet in total). The back end doesn't get as much snow.

Will be 4 by the time I wake up....

Not really. The only place where it will be a 100% all-rain event is extreme southwestern Ontario and the Niagara Peninsula. The freezing rain is going to occur far further south than you would lead others to believe.

The snow removal in the downtown core is well underway in Ottawa, and the 25+ cm will be gone by the time the morning commute happens. However, adding more snow/ice pellets, and then six hours of freezing rain, will probably make for an interesting afternoon commute, mostly due to people who scrape off a matchbox size piece of front window "because I'm always home 35 minutes after I leave work" rather than taking the time to scrape ALL their windows.

No, really. As of 10 PM, it's at freezing or above everywhere in Southern Ontario from the GTA West, and from the 401 South, including Toronto (+2), Burlington (+2), Hamilton (+1). Precip. has not started in any of these areas yet. The surface temp needs to be slightly below freezing for freezing rain to adhere.

As I said, an all-rain event in those areas, in addition to SW Ontario where it's been raining lightly for the past couple of hours.

Roads are slick this morning on way to work, take your time and slow down, many icy sections.

Took me about 5 minutes longer than normal to get to work, and so early in the morning, so traffic not the issue.

Little rain, just right around freezing, in Barrie area... If the temp drops another couple degrees, it's going to get interesting out!

EC disagreed with you enough to issue Freezing Rain Warnings for all those areas that you said would be all-rain. I tend to think they know more about this particular subject than you ever will. Meh.

No freezing rain was reported in the areas that I posted about. Unsurprising since the temperature was at for above freezing.

As it turns out, the EC forecast was incorrect for those areas, though it was appropriate to err on the side of caution when issuing warnings.

Freezing Rain warnings were issued for Elgin County, Oxford County, Middlesex County and Norfolk County at 8PM last night. Freezing rain warnings were also in effect for parts of the GTA. Those counties I just mentioned are in Southwestern Ontario, unless of course the map you are looking at is different than the one everyone else uses.

Like I said, I have every reason to believe they know more about both the forecasting of weather (and evidently even geography) than you do.

There was still sufficient chance of it happening overnight for EC to issue a warning, though. I was actually quite surprised that it extended as far south as it did.

They didn't issue a warning for Toronto and the west-end of the GTA, just an SWS.

It's still -6C here (rising slowly since early this morning), but we still have snow coming down, not freezing rain. There is still a warning in effect for freezing rain this afternoon and evening, as the temperature is forecast to stay right around the freezing mark until some time tomorrow.

I didn't say EC was wrong to issue the warning, I'm saying the freezing rain didn't happen in the entire geographic area covered by the warnings. Temps were above freezing from a line extending South from just North of the 401, and SW all the way to Windsor.. Areas North of that line may have experienced mixed precip, as I posted originally.

There was some freezing rain to some extent in Mississauga because the roads were iced this morning on the way into work. Some poor lady in front of me lost control when stopping at an intersection. Luckily everyone was on the ball and she just spun into the intersection without hitting anyone.
