Hmm well that is odd, as you would think if one area of cox is working, all there market's would be green lighted for this. I know for me it's saying no, and so this may be a good topic for discussion. I don't need top quality for watching netflix, but it should be an option to me. As I am a ultimate tier customer, and 100mbps down is plenty of bandwidth speed to run multiple stream's if I want. |

The TiVo Premiere Netflix App does show which Titles are available in Super HD.
According to a few reports TiVo Premiere does support Super HD even though Netflix does not list it.

The Roku 2 XS 1080p Netflix App does not list Super HD availability in Titles. The current Roku Netflix App looks like the old TiVo Neflix App.

My understanding is that the ISP provides for local placement of a Netflix server farm on the ISP transit network. I suspect that would mean Cox-Virginia and Cox-Oklahoma would have to host Netflix Open Connect on their local transit networks. The idea seems to be for the ISP customer to not leave ISP transit on the way to the Netflix streaming servers.
Trying to decide how to best test my ideas ...

Has Cox Communications put a press release out on this? I agree that the big HSI companies will hold out on "Open Connect" because of their own OnDemand type offerings.
Ironically, the reason I dropped my DTV was Cox couldn't give me a quality picture at 720, or steady PQ. I've never had even the merest a hiccup with streaming Vudu HDX - The bandwidth is there!
Which makes me wonder... why does Netflix need an "Open Connect" and HSI providers cooperation when other streaming services don't?

| Because of the bandwidth caps I believe. Netflix want a way for cable providers to not enforce bandwidth caps on Netflix streaming and Super HD is Netflix's leverage it appears. |

So Hulu content apparently requires leaving Sonic.net (my ISP) transit to traverse Level 3 and Telia to reach the Hulu content.
My understanding of Netflix "Open Connect" is that Netflix places their streaming servers directly on the ISP transit network, such that traversal of third party transit is not necessary.
I need to set up a Netflix account to test this.

IIRC, Super HD is merely 5.8 mbps. Not exactly will be Blu Ray like quality which are typically 20 to 30 mbps. |
