CPU usage (in both the system and internal task manager) fluctuates between 15-20% on a 4 logical core machine, even if I launch chrome with only the new page screen right after a reboot. Moreover, the (internal) task manager is reporting that all the CPU usage is coming from the main browser thread.

This has happened to me before. I uninstalled and reinstalled, and the fixed the problem until it started acting up again. Obviously it's not practical to reinstall chrome every time this starts to happen. I have tried non-beta builds. I have disabled every extension and plugin. I have reset all the flags to their defaults and played around with them besides. I have cleared all browser data. I have disabled my antivirus software. None of it helps.

"chrome://profiler/" shows that "Chrome_IOThread WorkerThread-*" has the greatest run time, with "Chrome_IOThread PresentThread #* Browser" coming in second

Any advice would be appreciated

OZO posted : No, there is no specific advise. Just play with some options (flags) there and see if it helps. The list includes lot of computer specific and graphic acceleration related options. Just keep records (for yourself) of what you're doing there to be able to return it back.

Anything specific that might have caused high CPU? I didn't change anything there from the defaults but maybe something else did?

Chrome's internal task manager shows only Chrome and it was showing 20% CPU for the Browser process. The below picture is Chrome's internal task manager and on this machine shows the Browser task using 2% vs the 20% I'd see on the other machine.

There's an obvious reply.

Other machines at home and work running the same version of Chrome don't experience the high CPU. Some of those Chrome installs are also synced to the one that was showing a high CPU and they were fine.

Late yesterday I uninstalled Chrome and re-installed the same beta version. Once resynced and the same extensions were running, the CPU was no running up to 50%.
