Re: Great Beta Testing Cogeco Speeds!

When choosing speeds for the beta, the Chatham plans were what we had to pick from, I chose the 14/1 for now until they rollout the bigger packages. In my case, I got a Technicolor/Thomson 476 D3 modem to be future proof.

....which all sounds fine, and which saves them the chore of updating their site until later too, like when they have decided what plans and prices to offer.

But they can still play with (aka improve) your profiles as the testing progresses, and it sounds like they have, at least on the UP channel.

Glad you got the D3 modem, and best of luck.

I have found my speeds to be consistent regardless of the time or day since activated. I wonder if you're experiencing some local node congestion.

For what it is worth, I am in Chatham and get 14down/ 2up now as well, for about the last week or so. I'm not sure why it changed, but I'll take it.

Cogeco raise the upload on there 14 plan which probably affected Teksavvys package. Just want to add that torrents download at 14 Mbps but speedtest keeps saying 10 Mbps. Weird

Have you tried your speedtest picking a Toronto server instead of the Winnipeg one that it defaults to? I often use the »speedtest.cogeco.net server to test as well. If you're getting 14Mbps on torrents, you're getting full speed.

Chatham customers will also be receiving 14/2 and 16/2 as Cogeco replaced all 14/1 and 16/1 profiles with them. The POI type is irrelevant in that case.

The POI only becomes an issue with higher speeds as Cogeco only offers 20/2, 30/2 and 60/2 on the aggregate POI.

Pretty sure Chatham is now on aggregate POI, as of last week.

In that case, the entire discussion of aggregate versus non-aggregate is moot.

I should say that I know that they were hoping to finish that process last week, I am not 100% that they were successful though. But the 2mb upload probably means they were? I didn't realize that Cogeco had upgraded their upload speed on the lower tiers until someone pointed it out in this thread. I wonder if they are looking at going higher on the faster tiers soon.

The speed upgrade appearing last week have nothing to do with the POI type. That just so happens to be the time when they went live.

Probably won't see faster upload speeds beyond 2Mbit/s on the higher tiers until Cogeco finishes rolling out four channel 64QAM on all their nodes. That rollout only started very recently.

Sure, why not !

So contrary to my earlier speculation, it looks like Chatham-ites are unofficially doubling as Beta Testers too.

Okay, thanks for that. I've not much use for higher upload speed anyways, so I'm not too concerned by that.
