Setting up extension ladder - vinyl siding

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is safe to setup an extension ladder up against vinyl siding without damaging it?

Thanks

I always used standoffs or wrapped the ends with rags.

I am planning on using a little giant M22. It does have rubber feet.

Rags. Duct tape a couple of towels around the ends. Especially in winter. Cold vinyl cracks easy.

I use a set of these on my ladder

But I think you are going to need lots more cushioning due to the extreme cold as warned about by rfnut See Profile.

Edit to add: The Amazon link fails to mention that the covers are soft and rubbery, kind of like thick neoprene.

Something like this:

wrapped in a towel or some old carpet, will go a long way towards saving your siding... Although, if it's cold, there's potential for cracking, no matter way you do.

I also try to position the ladder so that it's just under a row, where the siding naturally is as close to the sheathing. Less chance of crushing/bending/cracking the vinyl.

Quite a good question.
If it's below 0F, the vinyl is more susceptible to cracking.
But I doubt anyone would work outside on a ladder such a job in frigid temperatures unless it's an emergency.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess, I will wait until the weather gets a little warmer and will put some soft cloth around the ladder edge.

Question - do you guys know if windows installed on vinyl siding needs to be caulked? I have one window that is caulked and the other one is not. Is there a rule?

Thanks
