Re: Worked for Comcast : hated it. Now a customer : hate it too. Unfortunately out here in Purcellville (VA) we're basically stuck with Comcast if we want anything faster than DSL.
Verizon FIOS exists just down the road in Lessburg, from what I understand - but there's no timetable for it to move out here (if it ever does).
This is embarrassing for a county that has one of the highest median incomes in the country, and is (was?) at one of the main virtual crossroads of the Internet.
Loudoun County was supposed to have someone (or an office) within the county government level that was responsible for encouraging further build-out of high speed connectivity throughout the area. If the position still exists, it is safe to say that they've been substantially less than successful at accomplishing their mission. If private companies (like Verizon) won't build out true high speed capabilities to other areas, then development of things like municipal high speed ISPs should be encouraged or at least discussed as viable options. |
