[Speed Problem] AT&T DSL Chicago
My in-laws (+70 years of age) have DSL in the building they live in. My wife and I bought them a new laptop and I was shocked to see they were getting consistently about .3 - .6 (yes less than 1MBps) MBps doing a speed test using an Ethernet cable. When we tried to set them up with wireless we could only get limited connectivity, and we were not able to access the internet.
I have a few questions are these speeds normal for AT&T DSL in Chicago (like 3rd world speeds)? The Modem I think needs replacing as it gets very hot. My wife's mother has not been able to get in touch with AT&T on the phone. The Modem looks ancient. It is a Motorola and the Model # is 2210. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

You can post private info to this forum and only AT&T tech's will be able to see it (along with yourself):
Without specifics like modem type we can't really give you any other advice.

the newer modem is a motorola nvg510. its possible that it does need replacing but might have to be billed for a new modem do you know what speed they are suppose to be getting.
How come she cant get a hold of anyone? the 800-att-2020 is the fastest way, but you just need to say speak with an agent and you can get around a lot of the computer prompts she can add you as an authorized contact so that you can speak with directly as well
