Ads in online streaming videos

We've all seen them. Wait 5 seconds to skip the ad, Your video will start in 15/30 seconds, a word from our sponsors, etc.

Im sick and tired of these fucking video ads that you find on blogs, news sites, youtube.

Why cant i just start watching the video? It wasnt like this 7-8 years ago. Why must everything you view online have to be a money generating scheme?

fuck all of those companies! i have started closing browser windows when a see an ad trying to load.

flame on!

It doesn't work for all of them.

Anyway, you know what's more annoying than video ads?

When the stupid ad plays just fine but once the video you want to watch start playing, all it does is buffering every 2 seconds!

It works for stuff like Youtube videos, but not Hulu.

YouTube is unwatchable without AdBlock. I've been using AdBlock so long that I didn't even realize what the "vanilla" YouTube experience had become until recently when I was watching something on another machine. OMG it's an ad blitz.

I still get the box ads popping up in youtube and i see with other NON youtube sites still have the "Wait 5 seconds to skip the ad, Your video will start in 15/30 seconds, a word from our sponsors, etc."

I guess there's no way around the ads.

Re: Ads in online streaming videos

They are proving something for FREE - without ads - you would have to PAY to see the video. Servers, internet connections, and support are not free.

Many are part of public companies - Google owns YouTube and they eventually will need to show some earnings.

Remember the 'free' internet provider NetZero - yea - they had to give that up since there was no viable way to pay for the equipment.

Many websites started as free - providing data or service - but that was done while the 'free' money from VM's or their rich partners ended.

Either pay for the service or get it for free and deal with the ads. There is no such thing as money for nothing - or getting chicks for free.

Hell I am just glad many of them allow me to skip after 5 seconds.

I'll gladly see YouTube cease to exist, then, before I either put up with that volume of ads or pay them any money. They are hardly a life necessity.

My business has paid Google enough money in AdWords costs -- as have thousands of other businesses, I suspect -- to make it slightly hard for me to sympathize with them on the issue of their costs.

It is not just Google that does this - many others do as well. So no sympathy needed but people need to figure out that you don't get thing like that for free.

I have blocked the ads on most sites for ages. I ALSO wouldn't pay to see whatever it was if there were no ads...it is not my choice to have some "content" shown with ads that I can very well do without. *shrugs*.

Last I was on hulu.. I got the wait time still but at least it blocked the ad.

Re: Ads in online streaming videos

I (ab)use the HOSTS file to block ads and rarely see a pre-roll ad on a video.

Though I do sometimes encounter videos that simply won't start until I use HostsMan to temporarily disable the hosts file
