Re: Ads in online streaming videos One of the apps on my Blu-ray player is for Crackle, they have free TV shows and movies. Now I can understand the need for commercials because they are providing their services for free, but it seems that the only advertising client they have is Axe Apollo. Axe only has two commercials, one with a lifeguard and the other with a fireman. The whole idea behind the commercials is stupid, but what is worse is having to watch one of the two commercials at each commercial break. |

| reply to seamore I made a quick visit to YouTube clicking on videos at random just to see what ads I would get. Here are the results:
Advil (too bad..I already have the pain-relievers I need) theHouse.com (wanting to sell me snowboards...I'm 58) MGM Grand Vietnam (Seriously? I can't afford to go to Chicago.) The Get Around Knee (if I need one, my doctor will decide) DISH Hopper (I'm not going to go there) Oprah (if you think I care about Beyonce, you're wrong) AMEX Sync on Twitter (I don't even have a cellphone) Gamefly (I'm not going to go there X 10,000) Ameriprise Financial (as if I had any money to invest) Legal Zoom (if I need legal advice, I'll get a lawyer) and three movies I will never watch the latest Die Hard The Internship Silver Linings Playbook
and to add to the insanity, I started getting repeats of the above.
They were all wasted on me, just as the next 1000 ads will be. |

Adblock. It is your friend. Same here. I was surprised to find that out. Adblock all the way. Also use Ghostery but sometimes on some sites the video doesn't even come up at all. -- "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." -Jimi Hendrix |

Honestly, I don't know why companies do this. Want to know the easiest way to lose my business? Rupture my ear drums - never, ever will I buy a damn thing you make. |

 | reply to seamore Yes, it angers me to no end as well. Adblock doesn't work on every site, BTW. I do have Adblock Plus. -- Illegal aliens have always been a problem in the United States. Ask any Indian. Robert Orben

 | reply to seamore If it's a 5 second thing - turn off images and use the mute. Count about 6 seconds and turn everything back on. It's a pain, but it is revenge. You can't buy what you can't see (or hear)
You can do images instantly in Opera. FX has an add-on. |

Re: Ads in online streaming videos I (ab)use the HOSTS file to block ads and rarely see a pre-roll ad on a video.
Though I do sometimes encounter videos that simply won't start until I use HostsMan to temporarily disable the hosts file -- Think Outside the Fox. |

Re: Ads in online streaming videos I have blocked the ads on most sites for ages. I ALSO wouldn't pay to see whatever it was if there were no ads...it is not my choice to have some "content" shown with ads that I can very well do without. *shrugs*.
Last I was on hulu.. I got the wait time still but at least it blocked the ad. |

| reply to CylonRed I'll gladly see YouTube cease to exist, then, before I either put up with that volume of ads or pay them any money. They are hardly a life necessity.
My business has paid Google enough money in AdWords costs -- as have thousands of other businesses, I suspect -- to make it slightly hard for me to sympathize with them on the issue of their costs. |
