Personal modem and Wave

I was checking Wave's site and it says I can use my own cable modem if I have one. Has anyone here done this? Do I have to call Wave for authentication? Any issues during long term use?

I have a little extra cash to spend on a modem for myself and with my new wireless router I'm hoping to cut about $13 off my bill.

If anyone wants to know I'm looking at the Motorola SB6141 SURFboard for what I would use as for a modem.
