It's pretty safe to assume advanced knowledge of any kind is lacking in these examples.

Yeah, if you have NO use for an iron, go ahead.
But if you do use it for your shirts... avoid using it any other way unless you like grease stains ;)

That AC unit is not being done any favors. That's a significant reduction in airflow through a machine designed with a specific airflow to run properly and reliably over time.

they only have about one third of the total output covered, so it's probably because causing any significant issues with airflow.

One afternoon, he discovered Mom's iron worked great to grill a ham 'n cheese. Had a piece of foil and the extension cord not left in the driveway, we'd have been none the wiser. To this day, I'm not sure which pissed off his Mom more; his using the iron as an inverted griddle or my uncontrolled laughter when he fessed up. Due to the if-looks-could-kill expression on her face as I post this, I'm guessing the latter. :D
