Will this camera work with actiontec router?

Hello, I just purchased this camera to use for keeping an eye on an elderly/sick dog in the house while I am working out in my shop. I have a computer in the shop that is wired to the router in the house.

The router is a verizon actiontec model MI424-wr rev c and it is connected to the FIOS with a cable, not RJ45. This router supports 3 wired desktops, one wired laptop, two wireless laptops, and one wireless roku player. The frontier fios is internet only, no tv.

My wife works from home full-time and uses the connection for movement of files to/from her company, and working remotely. Both my wife and my son play the online roll-player games I guess they are called. I just surf the internet for the most part, and of course the roku streams movies every once in a while.

Reading the manual for the camera I find the following statements.
At some point in the set-up process it is required to, 'push the WPS button on the router'. And it goes on to say that the router security must be WPS not WPE.

On the router itself I see Mac address.....
and WEP key....

Yet in my file for the router I have notes that say username and password, and WPA pre-shared key, and the router http location.

It's been years since I set this thing up and managed through some small miracle to get all the devices working on the network so my memory is foggy. I understand this is an old router, but other than the occasional re-set it has actually worked pretty well, although maybe it's dog slow by today's standards and I just don't know it. (I don't recall at the moment what speed plan we have with frontier).

So does the camera requirement for WPS security mean I can't use the camera with my current router?

Thanks

I don't know of any WPS-enabled wifi devices that require WPS. They all offer WPS as an option, as a convenience, esp. for the non-technical among us. You should still be able to ignore the WPS feature and manually configure the device by accessing its user interface via your web browser.

Make / model of router in question?

Second eibgrad, WPS is a CONVENIENCE, but seriously I'd start with the router's manual in how to set up a wireless key
on both the router and camera in question.

Time for you to find the manual. According to this in the tech specs on Amazon:

>Wireless Security WEP & WPA WPA2 Encryption

The camera supports WPA, which it appears is already setup on your wireless router. You'll need to find the directions on how to configure the camera to connect via WPA.

It will likely entail first connecting ro the camera via its wired Ethernet connection and then logging in to a web server that is built-in to the camera. From there you can configure the camera properly for use with your wireless network.

Thanks for the replies, the router is a verizon actiontec model MI424-wr rev c.

I'll dig up the file with the router manual, some of it is slowly coming back to me. I think the router was originally WEP but when we purchased a blue-ray player w/ netflix wireless capability, or maybe it was the roku, one of those devices required the router to be changed to WAP to work properly.

Reading some of the reviews on amazon it seems people are recommending to follow the setup instructions listed in some of the reviews and set the confusing camera manual aside. Many of the reviews also state that the set-up process is not for the technical novice.

This household plunges into defcon level 4 panic when the internets are down for more than 15 minutes, especially with my wife relying on the network to do her work. I may have to wait until weekend so as not to risk screwing up the network for my wife's stuff. If that happens I'll be sleeping in my shop for the week. Should be interesting.
