Valor will NOT be converted in 5.2

»us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/7909111142

And copypasta for websensed folks:

After reading your feedback and locking ourselves in dim, fluorescent-lit rooms for much deliberation, we have decided that we are NOT going to convert Valor to Justice and Justice to gold when 5.2 ships. Current Valor items will continue to require Valor in 5.2, and will be offered at a discount as listed in the PTR patch notes. Given that PvE and PvP currencies function quite a bit differently, Conquest will still convert to Honor and Honor to gold as previously discussed.

We’re making the Valor change for a couple of reasons, but primarily because we think a down-conversion under the new Mists endgame progression model just feels mean. We traditionally viewed this conversion process with each patch as a necessary evil to discourage hoarding—it’s not fun to feel like you can’t spend your Valor in the weeks before a new patch because you have to be ready to buy everything up. However, we have a Valor cap now to prevent excessive hoarding, many of the Valor rewards in 5.2 require raiding to acquire (for example, many of the ilevel-522 rewards are tied to Shado-Pan Assault reputation, which you’ll only gain rep with by raiding in the Throne of Thunder), and the LFR version has an ilvl-480 requirement, meaning you can’t hoard Valor on a brand new 90 and jump straight to the best stuff. All of these factors being considered, it doesn’t make good sense to take Valor away from players in this context. Down-conversions may occur for future patch releases depending on the circumstances, but for 5.2 it’s safe and snuggly where it is.

In addition, we’re making a change to ensure that there are some gear rewards available via the Kirin Tor Offensive and Sunreaver Onslaught, the two new factions with which players can earn reputation in 5.2 without raiding. The patch was shaping up to be a real challenge for players who don’t like raiding (including LFR), as our original design meant that no new Valor rewards would be available to them without needing to run Throne of Thunder. You can expect to see the Valor rewards on the Kirin Tor Offensive and Sunreaver Onslaught quartermasters updated on the 5.2 public test realms in the near future. These rewards are ilevel 496 and will only accommodate a few slots, as they aren’t intended to be very attractive to raiders (including those running LFR), but should give non-raiders something to shoot for in 5.2.

If you’ve already made plans and sank your Valor, don’t fret! As of this announcement, and even if you have 0 Valor currently, you still have enough time to cap out at 3000 Valor before patch 5.2 goes live. (It’s math!)

We’d love to hear your feedback about this change, and how you’re planning to earn, save, and spend Valor before the patch releases.

Oh, I like to hear this! Going to change my thoughts on upgrading a few items on my main just to keep the conversion from occurring.

I haven't paid attention. Are they going to come out with a JP vendor with consumables? Right now, my JP is pretty much useless since I don't need anything it can buy. And converting it to HP to buy motes is not ideal.

Interesting.

I think I'll save valor so that if/when I get a sha touched weapon I can upgrade it.

I wonder can you do the new LFR repeatedly for rep?
If so then I say we form a group to do that.

Thanks for the thread Joel you saved me a big big headache.

If you like PvP you can get honor for JP and get a couple pieces (rings, neck, cloak) to complement your set for next patch.

Hmm too bad I JUST spent almost a full Valor cap yesterday upgrading tier items since they had said we'd be losing our valor to justice. Suppose this is for the best still since I have this week and next to earn more back. Sucks all the same to act based on what they tell you 2 weeks before a patch only to learn they've changed their mind yet again lol.

Blah. I know Honor comes fast but I'd rather my Honor I have at the time over gold. Guess I better find something to buy.

I will start using all my honor for upgrades of the Dreadful gear, I was just waiting to be close to cap to do it, there is no point for that now.

isn't it 3 weeks since the cap is three thousand and it's 1000vp per week. it seems pretty explicit that it will drop in 3 weeks?

I'll probably spend my honor before 5.2 then they will announce it won't be converted to gold. I'll crap gold eggs.

1 edit

I believe you guys are misunderstanding the PvP portion.

Honor is only converting to gold what you have above cap (4k).

February 26th if you have 3k honor, and 2k Conquest, you'll end up with 4k honor, 0 conquest and some gold.

Clear?

Gold conversion is 27 silver, or .27 per honor.

So if you're 1k above honor cap @ .27 = 270g.

Alright so basically burn your conquest before 5.2 and keep your valor cap for the next day.

Do you know if they are going to reset the timers on new gear? One thing that Xcal told me is that you could buy a couple pieces with honor and logoff before the timer expires then with 5.2 you can sell them back after purchasing your honor gear so in theory you can go above the honor cap.

Or burn some VP upgrading any items you think you'll be holding on to (IE sha touched.)

because ilvl upgrade is getting suspended till 5.3

Valor's not getting reset, and new gear will be a higher item level then current gear upgraded. Unless you area already at the 3k Valor cap, I don't suggest upgrading anything, save your Valor until 5.2

Similarly - Despite upgrade vendors going away. Malevolent PvP gear item levels are being buffed to make up for the loss of upgrades. This means that people who are currently Full Malevolent upgraded will be easily caught up to in 5.2

Last patch they fixed the buy and refund method.
Also they said the current Malv gear will be a higher ilvl than the honor malv gear.
So yes spend your conquest and make sure your honor capped if not full malv already.

I'm saying this is black and white, not grey.

Unless you're capped - don't spend Valor.

Oh bummer, I only have 1 piece of Malevolent, rest is Dreadful, so I will cap Conquest for 2 weeks and spend on Malevolent before the patch hits. Honor Cap is out of question.

Thanks for the update.
