Advice need for new router with support for a USB hub

I am currently in the market for a new router and would like some advice. I am currently liking the linksys e4200 but have a few questions.

01. Can I ran firmware other than stock on this router preferably Tomato or DD WRT.

02. With the alternative firmware can I use a USB hub to have multiple external hdds on my network ?

Also I am open to suggestions for another router that could do what I want as well.

As to 01: Yes on both DD-WRT and Tomato.

As to 02: Don't know, but I would not be surprised if no.

I have a HX4 from Vantec plugged into my router. This box has it's own 4 port USB hub in the box and it allows me to access all 4 hard drives in the enclosure.

If you are going to use your own USB hub you might need to get one that is externally powered as many routers do not provide enough current to drive more than one or two devices when you use a hub that only gets it's power from the router.

Ok I am now looking at the Netgear wndr3700.

Looks like it supports a usb hub out of the box

Anybody have this router that could recommend it?
