at 154VAC, incandescent bulbs will have a life of several minutes and burn like a supernova until they fail.

Are you seeing this?

If so, you have a problem. If not, as others have said, check the meter setup.

An electrician will charge you regardless if there is anything wrong. And if it's not on your side of your meter, all he's going to do is call the power company on your behalf.

The power company is obligated usually to at least check it out for free and repair anything that they are responsible for.

If that is the case the voltage cannot be as high as you measured. I agree with leibold See Profile and lutful See Profile meter is reading peak rather then RMS.

Since nothing has blown up yet I'd hold off on calling an electrician and do what bluechalk See Profile suggested. Get a Kill-A-Watt. It is a handy little device for all sorts of stuff and will tell you right away if you have a problem.
