[WIN8] two desktop.ini files on W8 desktop with same file names

How does this happen?

There are two "desktop.ini" files on my desktop with the same file names, but different file sizes.

One is 88kb while the other is 206kb.

Re: [WIN8] two desktop.ini files on W8 desktop with same file na

If it is the same as Win 7, then one is for the user's desktop, 1 is for file sharing.

If you want and do not use file sharing, you can turn it off and delete both files, on reboot only the user desktop.ini is created.

They are there for a reason, if that's what you are asking.

One is \users\yourlogin\desktop\desktop.ini and the other is \users\public\desktop\desktop.ini.

The displayed 'desktop' is the union of those two file system directories.
