SWTORI was bored. The weather was bad. Football season is over. Nothing on tv. Not really sure why but the other day I decided to give SWTOR another try. I haven't played since June so i was hoping things may have gotten better. I read a little about the free to play stuff and figured that $15 was not that big a deal as I would like to have access to everything including all charcters. I loaded the patches resubbed and got ready to dust off my lightsaber. Loaded the game and see all the familuar face of my characters. So first choice level 50 jedi guardian. I get an error message about the character is not active and can only have 4 active per server. Okay I'm a little pissed so I'll try something evil level 50 sith warrior. Same message. I try to load through all my characters and manage to get 3 of 8 to work all below level 25. I submit a ticket and post on their customer service forums and find out others are having the same issue. So three days later I stll haven't had the ticket answered its a 40 minute wait is you call CS and you get a person that you can not understand and they cant understand you. tl dr SWTOR has changed since I last played, its worse. Don't waste your time and certainly not your money. |

Last time I played this game was February of last year.
I wouldn't waste my internet bandwidth re-downloading and precious hard drive space reinstalling it.
Like I said before, even if they agreed to pay me a monthly 15 dollar fee, I still wouldn't play it. |

If they paid me $15 a month, I'll log on once a month just to hear the lightsaber sound!
(And take 20 whacks with it to kill a normal guard... wah...) |

After you butt hurt because it's not WoW?
I'm playing through for the stories (good or bad).... I feel like what I am doing has a sense of purpose.. and not mindlessly mashing my keyboard trying to get better gear.
I follow the story because of the cutscenes and dialog choices. It's not lines of text that mean nothing because I don't read them.
It's the cool thing to bash SWTOR as an MMO... I'm playing it as a RPG... sue me. |

I think it's great you like it, honest. Just like when Virtuous_t bashes GW2 cuz he loves WOW, I think as long as a game brings you fun, it's good!
SWTOR wasn't all bad. I enjoyed it for a while, but the world felt empty after the newbie zones and too much Barren-like treks for me. |

It is some place in the middle... but to mindlessly bash it and bash those who enjoy it is what irks me. The funny part is had SWTOR came out before WoW it would have been the standard and any game that didn't have dialogue choices and cutscenes would be laughed at for making us read. |

said by BigReds42:After you butt hurt because it's not WoW? LOL...what? Because it's not WoW? SWTOR is a fucking clone of WoW. They copied nearly everything, right down to the color coded grades of armor. If you want to start a new thread to praise SWTOR, then by all means. But, we'll reserve this thread for crapping all over this pile of shit. |

It's not a clone... STWOR is Star Wars... WoW is orcs. WoW lore gets given to you via text... SWTOR is by cutscene.
OMG THEY COPIED COLORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All MMO mechanics copy something that came before it (aside from some of the real-time combat games I have read about... being able to dodge at incoming attack with movement). |

You're a bigger fan boy then I thought then if you can't see what Bioware copied from WoW. I notice the only thing you mention being different are the cut scenes. LOL |

Clone - n genetics, an exact replica of all or part of
And I notice you can't read.
Lore.
And how specific do you have to be to deem something different?
GTA and Saints Row... Clearly the same and clearly different.
You come up with two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MMOs that are enormously different from Wow/SWTOR/City of Heroes/Aion/Rift....
They are all games of AOE, DoT, specialized classes, tanks, healers, dps.... |

First of all I didn't say it was the worse game nor did I say I didn't like it. Yes BW copied WOW but they forgot to copy many of the updates. I'm glad some people like the game, great for them it wasn't and still isn't for everyone. At level 50 the story stops and it wasn't really that fun to me. However, when I decided to give it another try SWTOR is so messed up I and many other people can not even access their characters. If try to load into the game they copied I can access my characters I guess that proves it is not a clone. BW didn't even get that right. |

They are all games of AOE, DoT, specialized classes, tanks, healers, dps.... You're going to actually quote a dictionary term on the meaning of "Clone"? You know what the fuck I mean dude when I say clone. Of course one is Orcs and the other is Star Wars. No shit. Does that completely diminish then, every other aspect of copied UI, talent trees, mini map, raid mechanics and boss abilities? Even some of the tooltip desciptions are nearly copied word for word for christ sakes. LOL BUT IT'S GOT CUT SCENES!! THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!! You're in the minority homie. The vast majority of people that gave up on SWTOR all thought the exact same thing. A WoW rip off and clone. |

Nothing wrong with enjoying the game. I wish I still did. If I didn't have such a backlog I'd be tempted like the OP was to go back and play through the stories (not so much now, thanks for the warning OP). But it's definitely a WoW clone. |

GTA/Saints Row/Red Dead.... how are they different besides setting and story? The genre is MMO... not WoW. WoW is a skinned Everquest clone. All MMOs are inherently here's a problem (by reading or watching)go kill this for me and bring this back (by questing)... if you're not tough enough yet there are other things you can do for people (sidequests) until you have the better gear/stats to do the main quest. Did you know that Thomas Edison didn't event the lightbulb? He only perfected it. And not really that, he just found an acceptable filament and gas mixture combination to make it feasible for everyday use and production. Not to say the lightbulb has not been reinvented countless times since then. |

I am pretty sure SWTOR will go down as Bioware's biggest embarassement. To date, anyway. |

The funny part is it is not passion for SWTOR... I readily admit when I am done with the story stuff I will be done. It has nothing to hold me there, don't like mindlessly bashing my keyboard for an epeen contest.
It's just a passion for the fallacy in his argument which is it is practically the worst game of all time... it's a massive failure... It's an ok game.... it's an single player rpg wrapped in an MMO shell.
But because it didn't kill WoW like everyone thought, people jump on the "cool" side of the argument to bash it and say it is trash.
Superman 64... THAT was trash.
Aquaman... THAT was trash.
I could go on... but at least state VALID reasons... not opinions in this argument. |

I don't think you will convince many here to side with you; especially since people like myself feel burned. The game launched with serious issues and was the first MMO I ever played that required a multi-hour conversation to support before playing. Strike 1. Fine, launch issues can be overcome so long as the title is good, but unfortunately the game felt too much like I was playing WoW in another universe, but not the 7 year polished WoW, but the incest born red-headed child of it's twice-removed cousins version. When games don't do anything revolutionary, (sorry, cutscenes (WoW had them in limited fashion in LK) and voice acting (EQ2) don't count) then it is hard to explain the use of time.
A good story is only part of an MMO, the problem with SWToR wasn't it's story, it was that instead of charging a RPG cost of $60 with no monthly fee (with may have been more reasonable) they added the monthly cost and forgot to provide adequate support for the game.
Thinking about it, f*ck this game. I convinced my dad and brother to waste their money on this pile that is less useful than the collector's box it came in. Come to think about it, the box is a great place to put the game before hitting the trash. Glad you like it bro, but don't shit on us because we expect more for the kind of money we paid, and the developer paid to bring this game public. |
