Need information regarding Verizon iPhone 4

My daughter recently purchased an iPhone 4 from Verizon (she previously had a regular cell phone with unlimited data and text messages. She had to purchase 2GB of data for $30 on this phone.)

I would appreciate any information you can give regarding usage and safety of this phone.

I told her to turn off locations (something I saw on the news) and the phone wasn't very functional (we got weather from Cupertino). I thought that would prevent her from being tracked.

Can she charge the battery at any time (like before she goes out so it doesn't run out/low) or is it better to wait for a "battery charge" message?

She has insurance on the phone from Assurion (she's had this coverage for many years). I looked over the new terms we received last year re smart phones and they have an app that can locate your phone if lost or stolen, delete all information and back up info (I think) - when we checked it out the iPhone is not listed.

If you need to get things through iTunes, how do you do that and is it necessary to give them credit card info? (I'd rather not.)

I have no idea what iOS or Gxx she has.

I know I'm asking a lot but would appreciate any information you can supply. Thank you.

Sincerely, Libra

1. its not really about tracking her like that. location services, if on, will prompt for allow/disallow when a new app is opened. ie: open maps first time, it asks "would you like to allow maps access to your current location? yes/no"

2. yes, thats fine. if the batter seems odd (goes low fast, or charges up too fast) then let it run till it dies and then charge it (corrects itself)

3. iphone has this built in, find my iphone and its asociated features.

4. on itunes (on the computer or the device) you just browse and install. used to be you could setup an apple id without a card (had to do it from the computer, not set it up from the phone). If they really want something that costs, buy them an itunes gift card (5/10/20 cards)

Thank you.

Can you use your iPhone to get to the Apple Store and purchase the iTunes gift card and have that gift card stored in your phone?

Sort of. you can buy it from the phone and its a code you redeem that adds the value to your apple id

Thank you again. My daughter went into Find My Phone and was able to locate the phone from our laptop.

You've been very helpful.

You can also go to a rite aid ,cvs or any other stores like that and buy a prepaid gift card if you are afraid of putting credit info.

If you simply do not wanna go to any store as previous poster said you can go to apple's website and minimum purchase is 10$ for apple giftcard online.

Thank you. From reading old posts and possibly going to its website, I was of the assumption that to acquire the app that scans barcodes (can't think of it's name) you had to make the purchase or give credit information to ITunes. I'm very happy to know that isn't necessary. My daughter doesn't have any interest in ITunes at this time.

I appreciate the information on how to avoid giving credit information to the phone.

Sincerely, Libra
