[TiVo] Transferring Quad programs-Washington, DC
So my friend's QUAD has failed in an unusual manner. There is no HDMI output. Its Previews can see the saved programs, but nothing from the Quad. I had no viable way to test the Component Out so called Support. I'm betting they want to swap it out.
Besides the fact it won't be until Saturday that RCN shows up, there's the issue of all the stored programs on the existing one. Can they get a replacement Quad on the same account, transfer Quad->Quad, and return the dead one the next day?

Re: [TiVo] Transferring Quad programs
I'd hate to say it, but I believe all shows are gone. Even hooking up a eSATA HDD won't transfer them I believe either. Don't take my words as gospel, but I believe this is the case.
Non-Quads could transfer Tivo->Tivo, so I'd thnk Quads can as well.

I could be wrong, I just don't feel they'll do it. At my local office, they have a bullet proof glass window and a small slide box to exchange equipment. And we're not a major city, we're a rural area. The only issue I can see is, doesn't the TiVO need to be updated and have all program data on it first? Perhaps rcncares or rcnman can shed some light on this.
I use it to transfer stuff to my PC.
Then you can theoretically copy back to your Tivo.
I haven't ever transferred from one box to a different box, but I have copied from one box to my NAS, deleted from the Tivo, and then later pulled it back from my NAS to the Tivo (from the TIVO)...
With your MAK, you can also decrypt and get MPEG2 files...
It will take some effort. You have to decide if it's worth it for what you have saved...
