Exactly how stable is the Average Cop???

After the Dorner case in the US and now this one I'm seriously starting to question the vetting process by which cops are selected these days. I think they're all crazier than the crooks.

Ottawa Mountie, woman held on child abuse charges

A 41-year-old male RCMP officer and a 34-year-old woman facing a list of child abuse allegations were held in custody after making court appearances in Ottawa Thursday.

Ottawa police arrested the officer and the woman, who live in Ottawa, on Tuesday after an investigation at the officer's home.

Police sources told CBC News a child was found "chained" in the basement. Sources also said what officers found was the "worst case of abuse police have seen."

The man faces:

Three counts of aggravated assault.
Three counts of assault with a weapon.
One count of aggravated sexual assault.
One count of failing to provide the necessaries of life.
One count of forcible confinement.

The woman faces:

Three counts of aggravated assault.
Two counts of assault with a weapon.
One count of failing to provide the necessaries of life.
One count of forcible confinement.

The names of the accused have not been released to protect the identity of the victims, police said. There is also a court-ordered publication ban on the names of the accused and victims.

Ottawa police Supt. Tyrus Cameron told CBC News police are concerned about the identity of the victims being released, which would "re-victimize" them.

"They are victims of horrific abuse," said Cameron, who is in charge of criminal investigations.

And also in today's news...

RCMP has a bullying problem, watchdog says

The RCMP has a bullying problem that needs to be countered by better training and record-keeping, the force's watchdog says in a long-awaited report released today.

The RCMP public complaints commission launched its investigation in November 2011 in reaction to widespread reports from female Mounties about systemic sexual harassment.

The report released Thursday looks at 718 harassment complaints filed between 2005 and 2011, representing about 2.5 per cent of all employees at the RCMP.

Commission chairman Ian McPhail said about 90 per cent of the complaints involved bullying. Only four per cent of the complaints dealt with sexual harassment.

"Yes, there's a problem of harassment, but overwhelmingly the problem was abuse of authority," McPhail told CBC News.

Seriously, do they just hand out a gun and a badge to any idiot who applies these days?

Well, about 200 of the 800 officers in the Kitchener area have been charged over the past few years (all have been found guilty, only 2 have been given a criminal records), so 1 in 4 is likely unstable, which is probably pretty close to the GP. Charges range from rape and theft to DUI's and drug use/dealing.

wow. 200? That is pretty high. What the hell goes on in that region?
Hiring practice not effective or just a poor judgment?

Or once you join the force the mentality changes and makes them more aggressive.
May be it is same all over Canada and not region specific as I asked.
It is just the power corrupts people.

A lot of off-duty stuff. The main problem is that they all go to the same place and do drugs and drink and get into problems. They also steal police evidence, and share photo's of evidences (pornographic) with friends and family. Many time they'll have 10 cop friends back them up, etc, until the whole think crumbles down. But with the exception of 1 officer, all continue to work. The one cop that doesn't, actually had a compelling story...

With all the donuts they eat, their centre of mass tends to be lower, so they ought to be more stable.

But all that sugar, preservatives, and growth hormone in the burgers they eat is probably causing CJD in their brains.

Don't forget that opp officer with the dildos.

Bottom line, i personally do my utmost to avoid them all and would only dial 911 as a last resort.

don't release the name, in order to protect the victim..... isn"t it a bit too late for that?
