[Asterisk] routing outbound calls by extension of device ?

I ran into a little situation the other day where I was trying to send a fax over voip. I know its always hit or miss but I have had decent luck in the past doing it through my obi attached to the fax machine via my anveo dedicate did for fax. Most of my fax use is incoming so it is down via there online fax to email.
Prevously I had setup my Obi with anveo as the primary or #1 account with my asterisk box setup as and extension on the second account. Since I set up my asterisk with multiple did's and routes I thought I could do the same inside asterisk but found out that its not that easy and for the most part it only routes calls via the cid outgoing routes but not by extension.
I have done some research and it seams that Shmooze has add on for PBX in a flash that might work but its all kinda unclear to me how or if it would work. I could go back to just using the Obi110 dedicated to the fax machine but I like having it all run through the asterisk box.
Any suggestions.

Perhaps assigning a prefix, such as 9, to select the desired outbound route for the fax?

Or are you trying to send a fax by dialing an extension?

No i am not dialing an extension to send a fax. I did not think about assigning a prefix like 9 to a specific outbound route. I have to think about that I am not real up to speed on that but I think it would mean setting up an outbound call string with a 9 at the beginning and then having it prep ended or removed when dialed. I will have to do some studying.

On older versions of PiaF (FreePBX 2.8.x.x), select "Admin", "Setup", "Outbound Routes".

Select your desired route.

In the section labeled "Dial Patterns that will use this Route", use the Dial Plan Wizards to add "local 7/10 digit". Two new entries will be created.

Use the Dial Plan Wizards to add "Long-distance". Another entry will be created.

In the 2nd column (prefix) of the new entries, enter "9" (or your desired route number),

If your provider requires 10 or 11 digit dialing, you may need to prepend 1 plus your area code, or just your area code for the "local 7/10 digit" entries.

Click on "Submit Changes", then "Apply Configuration Changes".

Test by dialing 9+fax number.

Yep, I actually was doing that as you probably were posting your response. i tried it out and it worked like a charm. I also set the outbound caller ID in my asterisk box to my dedicated Fax DID and it worked too.
I guess you could use the same scenario to force any extension to dial out via a dedicated outbound route by entering the extension number into the prepend section and setting out bound routes for each one too.
When I first set up my Asterisk box it was just a test machine but once I had it working I kinda just for got about it. I need to play around more and learn some of the advanced features and mostly just to stay current on its setup. I was thinking maybe I did not need it for my purposes but the more I use it the more it kinda spoils me.

It's very flexible.

I use this routing feature, along with call files (scheduled calling), to automatically check my outbound and inbound routes.

I also use it to maintain free services that would become inactive after a period of non-use.

It's easy to get spoiled.
