Outdoor installations may require a heated enclosure if your temps dip below freezing. The data & spec sheet for cameras including operating temps is often listed at their web presence.

Outdoor units may require a 120 volt weather proof power source installation, whether heated enclosures are required or not. Not a problem at many locations, but I mention only because of budget planning and electrician availability within the project. If constant vigilance is your goal, battery powered units should be off the table.

Buy as much camera(s) as you can afford. The very low end units often provide a resolution so low that you might wonder if you're watching a Thomas Edison era prototype.
